Ingennio failed to score over hurdles but he went close on a few occasions, including once at this track, and he showed aptitude when third on his chasing debut at Newcastle last month. He’s entitled to do better with that outing under his belt and it’s possible that a recent wind operation could help bring about a bigger performance. He gets the nod over Hokelami who has made a good start over fences and produced his best effort yet when scoring at Sedgefield two weeks ago.
14:35 Lightening Mahler
Irish point winner Lightening Mahler was strong in the betting and made a successful start over hurdles at Hereford in January, drawing clear between the final two flights and just needing to be kept up to her work to score by three and a quarter lengths. She was disappointing when an odds-on favourite at Warwick a few weeks later, finishing tired in fourth, but a breathing problem provides a reason for that capitulation. She could be a different proposition following a wind operation and makes her return with the Dan Skelton stable in flying form.

Bumper winner Tap N Go Leo produced an encouraging first run over hurdles when third at Warwick in January and he confirmed that promise at Catterick the following month, appreciating the much longer trip as he stayed on to lead after the last. Like many by sire Malinas, Tap N Go Leo seems blessed with deep reserves of stamina and he remains with untapped potential over staying trips. He is an interesting contender on his handicap debut and gets the vote over Illico de Cotte who was also successful on his latest start and now goes handicapping.

Icaque de l’Isle, a winner in France for his former yard, is still searching for a first success in Britain and he needs to bounce back from an underwhelming effort at Exeter last time. However, he’s been given a chance by the handicapper who has dropped him 3 lb for his latest effort, and there are a couple of pieces of form for this yard which suggest he’s up to this sort of task. He is preferred to Calvic who was a good third over this course and distance 12 days ago.

My Friend Sean failed to make an impact in maiden and novice hurdles but he fared better when upped in trip for his handicap debut at Doncaster last month, finishing third despite racing keenly. My Friend Sean showed enough there to suggest he’s up to winning a race if learning to settle better and his potential for improvement marks him out as the one to be with here.
16:35 Sammy’s Guarantee
Sammy’s Guarantee was well beaten on her first few starts but proved a different proposition following a breathing operation, showing much improved form to win a Doncaster novice hurdle. She then found only a progressive rival too strong at Hereford on her handicap debut and was in the process of making her presence felt again at Chepstow last week only to fall three out. She seems to be going the right away and is taken to swiftly make amends.
