13:20 Doncaster – Charyn

ITV is back Flat racing Saturday starting here with the Listed Doncaster Mile. CHARYN might not be the easiest horse to win on but if he produces his best here he really should be too good for Knight and the others. The selection is a big ride for Silvestre de Sousa and won’t mind the heavy ground in any way. His third in the Group 1 Sussexy Stakes behind Paddington and in the St James’s Palace Stakes behind the same horse look good in the context of this race. Roger Varian’s stable is quiet but has had a recent winner.

13:30 Bangor – Uncle Bert

ITV also go to Bangor for one race Saturday which is this handicap hurdle over nearly 2m4f. This is wide open. UNCLE BERT has always promised more than he has delivered but he got it all together to score well at Wetherby last time for Nigel Twiston-Davies. James Turner once again takes off 7lb and if he’s in the mood and jumps well – something he hasn’t always done – he’s easily got the ability to score again.

14:10 Newbury – Into The Park

Newbury is the other main meeting Saturday and this is a handicap hurdle over 2m3f – it’s a cracker. Most of these are stepping up in trip. It’s boring, but INTO THE PARK looks like he will relish further and has valuable course-winning form. He stayed on really well at Taunton last time and despite edging left went away. He’s got a big chance up 6lb for Michael Nolan and the master Philip Hobbs and his partner in crime Johnson White.

14:25 Doncaster – Titian (each-way)

Here’s the prelude to the Lincoln in the Spring Mile Handicap. I tipped up TITIAN in this last year and he ran a belter in second and is now 2lb lower in the handicap. Julie Camacho will surely have laid him out for this and I like the fact he has a high draw. I guess the one concern is that he hasn’t won a race since October 2022, but let’s hope he hits the frame at least here under Ryan Sexton. An each-way chance.

14:40 Newbury – Heltenham

A handicap chase over 2m4f. HELTENHAM was really impressive at this track last time and if he’s in the same form here the 6lb rise won’t stop him. This, though, is the highest mark he has ever been on so he will have to bring the A game for the in form pair of trainer Dan and jockey Harry Skelton.

15:00 Doncaster – Baradar

The big sprint of the day in the Listed Cammidge Trophy over 6f. I’m all over mud-loving BARADAR in this who was third in the Lincoln last year and provided this column with a massive 16-1 success in the International at Ascot. With his stamina guaranteed I’m hoping David Egan will bang him out in front for his new retainer Amo Racing and they make all for George Boughey. It’s going to take a good one to go past in these conditions.

15:15 Newbury – Smiling Getaway (each-way)

A Grade 2 here in the mares’ novices’ handicap hurdle over an extended 2m4f. SMILING GETAWAY has an each-way chance here for trainer Nigel and jockey Sam Twiston-Davies. The mare kept on well at Sandown last time over this trip and despite being pumped up 5lb for that third place she may have more to come.

15:35 Doncaster – Migration

The big betting race on the start of the Flat season in the Lincoln Handicap over a mile. I’m worried about the low draw for Awaal who has an obvious chance. MIGRATION didn’t go on after landing this last season but with Paddy Bradley taking off 3lb I think he has every chance of going I again. He’s up to 111 now having been on 107 this time last year, but the conditions are ideal and he’ll be dropped out and try and come late and fast. I suspect there is a lot of dead wood in this race and David Menuisier will surely have laid his boy out for a repeat.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
