It’s the calm before the storm of Cheltenham next week. The thing to remember is you get paid out the same with a winner here as you will next week!
13:15 Sandown – Through The Ages
Gary Moore has such a good record with his juveniles around Sandown. It is very hard to get away from Through The Ages who has looked good in both his starts. He was fancied when getting beaten by Baudette Road at Huntingdon, but he needs more of a test of stamina and this stiff uphill finish at Sandown is perfect.
13:50 Sandown – Hasthing
Harry Cobden would win on the stable cat at the moment, so everything he rides is going to be strongly fancied and Fire Flyer is no exception. The only concern is the ground. I’m not sure he wants it this soft. Hasthing is the selection on the back of his bumper and early season hurdles form. In receipt of weight from quite a few others, I think he can get it done for JP McManus.
14:25 Sandown – Go Dante
Another Gary Moore horse to be wary of here. I feel Spirit D’Aunou will run a big race. Freddie Mitchell is taking seven off to offset the hefty rise for a comfortable success here in December. Previously, he never figured in the Betfair hurdle, but being proven at the track is the key and I can certainly see him being a danger at the finish. The one I like though is Go Dante. My selection was third in the Betfair and he beat Doddiethegreat comfortably at Cheltenham. I still feel there is mileage in his handicap mark.
15:00 Sandown – Honky Tonk Highway
Mark Walford doesn’t send many down south so has to be respected. I loved the way Just Call Me Lucy won at Carlisle so ground will not be an issue, but I am going for the horse with the highest reputation here. Honky Tonk Highway cost £165,000 at the sales. The form of her point-to-point win is really strong and ties in with a couple of these so I’m taking a punt on her.
15:35 Sandown – Kotmask
Kotmask is 12lbs higher than when winning earlier in the season here. However, I think there is more mileage in his mark plus the form has been boosted off his defeat at Kempton with Blow Your Lord going on to better things and I think the form will stand up. Invincible Nao is one to keep an eye on. Was an easy winner at Fakenham but had run well at Newbury in an okay race. Keep an eye on the market.
