14:15 Baron de Midleton

Baron de Midleton was disappointing in a Leicester claimer on his penultimate outing, failing to take advantage of what looked like a good opportunity following his handicap victory at Market Rasen, but he got back on track when third in a handicap at Newcastle 11 days ago. If he runs to a similar level as at Market Rasen or Newcastle he is likely to prove too good for these rivals on his drop back into claiming company.

14:45 My Gift To You

My Gift To You has yet to run a bad race since joining James Owen, mixing up chasing and hurdling to good effect, and he ran his best race yet despite coming off second best in a handicap chase at Southwell last month. My Gift To You found an improved rival too strong and fell short in his bid to complete a hat-trick, but he typically travelled smoothly and stuck to his task well to pull 20 lengths clear of the third. He remains well treated despite edging up 4 lb and ought to launch another bold bid.

15:15 Lily du Berlais

Lily du Berlais was a talented sort in bumpers, notably landing the Grade 2 event for mares at the 2022 Dublin Racing Festival, but she has yet to show that sort of form over hurdles. She’s been set some stiff tasks however, and has competed in graded company on all three starts over hurdles, so this mares’ novice looks like a good opportunity for her to get off the mark over jumps on her first start since last April. She can get the better of Sweet Fantasy who was a useful middle-distance performer on the Flat and struck on her hurdling debut for her new yard at Plumpton in January.

15:45 Haston Clermont

Haston Clermont failed to make an impact over hurdles last season but has proved a different proposition since going over fences. He registered back-to-back victories at Lingfield and Wincanton and was then only denied by the narrowest of margins when bidding to complete the hat-trick at Chepstow last time. The form of that Chepstow effort has been well advertised by the winner and the third both scoring next time out, so Haston Clermont still looks fairly treated following a 4 lb rise in the weights, particularly with more still to come.

16:15 Burrows Hall

Burrows Hall is stoutly bred and he looked well suited by the step up in trip when successful over this course and distance last week, justifying good support with plenty to spare. Burrows Hall passed the post four and a quarter lengths clear but was value for much more than that margin as he was at least ten lengths ahead at the final flight but was heavily eased on the run-in. Burrows Hall looks well treated under a 7 lb penalty and still has more to offer over staying trips.

16:45 Gaboriot

Gaboriot was in good form in handicap company in the autumn, registering back-to-back wins at Kempton and Doncaster prior to finishing third in a better race at Ludlow. He has much less to prove than most in the field and he looks worth siding with back in hunter chasing company.
