      13.20 Newbury – Copperhead

COPPERHEAD is essentially dropping in grade here making his Veterans’ company debut. He has been running well without winning since the end of last year and has been in all the big handicap chases behind good, useful, horses all season.

He will handle the ground and was only beaten two and a half lengths behind Quick Draw two runs ago who is now all of a sudden a ‘wiseguy’ bet for a Cheltenham handicap, because he worked with Constitution Hill at Kempton last week. Copperhead sneaks in at bottom weight with Freddie Gingell taking off a further 5lbs which will surely be a huge help to him.

      13.42 Kelso – Foster’sisland (each-way)

FOSTER’SISLAND could be more progressive than the form he has shown so far. His run against Santos Blue caught the eye as they were running off levels taking into account the jockeys’ different claims. Santos Blue is now rated 132 and Foster’sisland is rated 124 with Emma-Smith Chasen taking off a further 3lbs.

Foster’sisland will love the ground and trip and this is his first run after a wind operation. He’s a decent enough price to take a swing each-way in a trappy enough race.

      13.55 Newbury – Highstakesplayer (each-way)

HIGHSTAKESPLAYER was only rated 115 over hurdles but has improved massively for fences and has won all three chases so far. It’s very hard to know where his ceiling is and he sneaks in at the bottom of the weights off 130. He’s well up in class but is entitled to be here and take his chance. He looks an each-way bet to nothing for me.

      14.50 Kelso – Bingoo

There should be loads of pace on here so I’ll be be looking for something that’s held up and maybe has form over further than 2m and BINGOO ticks all the boxes for me in a handicap of this nature. He is very unexposed with only six runs over hurdles, winning four of them, including last time at Aintree over 2m 4f. He is versatile and can be ridden near the pace or buried in the pack.

Patience may pay off this time as the field may come back to him. He’s had only one run this season, two handicap runs in total and can continue to improve. He looks like he may have been laid out for the race.

      15.10 Doncaster – Lunar Discovery

LUNAR DISCOVERY looks to me to be clearly the best horse in the race. She is top rated with a mark of 125 – 1lb higher than Ottizzini who is giving her 3lbs and Lunar Discovery has pretty solid from, being both a bumper and hurdle winner. She takes a while to get going so the step up to three miles now should see her to best effect and she looks a worthy favourite to be on, rather than against.

      15.25 Kelso – Monbeg Genius

MONBEG GENIUS is the obvious one that catches the eye and has been a big talking horse all season and was favourite for the Welsh Grand National for a long time. He comes here now off a mark of 147 after the Grand National weights were announced so there’s no reason for them to look after his mark anymore. He looks the most obvious winner but that is reflected in his price.

      15.40 Doncaster – Charlie Uberalles (each-way)

Some Scope was an impressive winner last time out, winning by over 7l but got a 10lb rise in the weights for that win. It’s hard to know where the ceiling is with him but he’s also stepping up in grade.

I’d be keen to take him on though with CHARLIE UBERALLES who was third behind Annual Invictus and Forward Plan last time and the latter boosted that form by winning well last weekend. That surely gives him a decent each-way chance as he was pulled up before that in the Welsh Grand National and despite being 1lb higher now, is in much calmer waters.
