Horse Racing Tips: Rory Delargy’s slick ITV Racing picks on Saturday

Rory is sweet on Bowtogreatness at a decent each-way price in the 15:37 at Kempton.

      13:50 Kempton – Captain Marvellous

Kalif Du Berlais was impressive first time out here when beating Roaring Legend but Captain Marvellous was also impressive when winning at Kempton in November. Paul Nicholls’ runner will likely be short in the market so I’ll side with Captain Marvellous, who beat Great Valley by 23l last time out, as a value alternative.

      14:08 Newcastle – Fenland Tiger

None of these will qualify for the Grand National and this race is a bit of a waste of time! I’ve landed on Fenland Tiger for Sam England. He’s got the right credentials for this and Sam is a shrewd trainer. He’s won his last two starts and he’s jumped really well, which is a huge bonus in a race like this. He’ll take plenty of beating off a mark of 120.

      14:27 Kempton – Le Patron

I wasn’t that keen on Tahmuras at the prices and Arclight has a lot to prove, so I’ve landed on Le Patron, who was really impressive when winning the Henry VIII Novices’ Chase at Sandown in December on pretty bad ground. He relished the ground that day but he didn’t back that up when finishing fourth of five behind Nickle Back. You can forgive that run and he’ll relish the testing ground.

      14:45 Southwell – Diligent Harry

I’m taking a chance on Diligent Harry for Clive Cox and John Fahy. He’s got the speed to go well over 5f and it’s a stiff track at Southwell. He’s got a good draw in stall two and horses drawn low over the last few weeks have outperformed the higher drawn horses. He’ll be hard to keep out of the frame.

      15:00 Kempton – Lump Sum

I’m expecting Fiercely Proud to run a strong race as Ben Pauling and Ben Jones have a brilliant record together but I’ll side with Sam Thomas’ Lump Sum. The pair faced off at Doncaster in January, with Lump Sum finishing second and Fiercely Proud ending up third. Lump Sum has decent form on soft ground and he’s the most likely winner.

      15:20 Southwell – Eydon

There are question marks about Lord North over this 1m3f trip and he’s the likeliest winner on paper, but I’m taking a chance on Eydon despite his long absence. He was impressive when winning the Feilden Stakes at Newmarket in April 2022 and he backed that up by chasing Coroebus, Native Trail and Luxembourg home in the 2000 Guineas. He got outpaced slightly there and you could make the case that he can stay further. He’s now with Andrew Balding and he should be ready for this.

      15:37 Kempton – Bowtogreatness (NAP)

Bowtogreatness‘ recent form figures don’t read that well but he finished second behind Midnight River in a Handicap Chase at Aintree last year. He’s going to enjoy the step up to three miles and the Ben Pauling yard are flying at the moment. He acts on heavy ground and he’s a dual winner on the ground. He hasn’t quite got it together over fences and he’s got a big chance off a mark of 133.
