Monty’s Star

In the sixth of this year’s Paddy Power Media’s ‘From The Horse’s Mouth’ podcast ‘Cheltenham Countdown’, host Tom Nugent together with former jockey turned pundit Nina Carberry and well-known journalist and broadcaster Rory Delargy, look at the Brown Advisory on day two of the 2024 Cheltenham Festival.

Stay Away Fay and Grey Dawning are serious threats to the Irish’s chances of winning the Brown Advisory Novices Chase. Stay Away Fay finished third in the Cotswold Chase and that’s probably the strongest piece of form but it wasn’t a well run race and it could be muddling form as there were only four finishers.

He shaped well prior to that and Grey Dawning clearly excites the Skeltons. He might have won at Cheltenham ahead of Ginny’s Destiny but he walked through the second-last fence. He’s got solid form and he won the Grade 2 Novices’ Chase at Warwick last time out but I’m slightly concerned about his jumping.

Fact To File beat Gaelic Warrior last time out at the Dublin Racing Festival and he travelled really well despite it being a two-runner race. He’s jumped really well in his last two wins but I feel he’s a three-miler rather. I’d have Fact To File in the Turners rather than the Brown Advisory.

I like Monty’s Star for Henry De Bromhead, although he hasn’t done the most out of the horses at the top of the betting.

He was disappointing in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham last year but the extra year and going over fences has really helped him. He was decent on his chase debut and he was really impressive when beating Three Card Brag on New Year’s Eve at Punchestown.

Monty’s Star out jumped him and was just generally quicker. He’s got a lot to find on the ratings but that’s because of the races he’s ran in. He’s high on my shortlist.
