13:32 – Aqwaam

You can make claims for all five of these, but AQWAAM just about shades the vote following his effort over course and distance three weeks ago. That race wasn’t run at much of a gallop and he didn’t get the clearest run in the straight, having to switch and running on near the finish. He arrives in good form and seems sure to go well again under conditions which suit. Artisan Dancer also shaped better than the bare result when a close fourth at Lingfield on Sunday and is next best.

14:02 – Higher Law

Despite remaining a maiden, HIGHER LAW again ran well when runner-up over course and distance 11 days ago, going with plenty of zest and pushing the eventual winner all the way to the line. He is drawn well here and this race doesn’t look any stronger, perhaps a little weaker, so another big run is on the cards from the same mark. Monsieur Fantaisie ended a lengthy losing run in good style at Chelmsford recently and he’s feared on debut for Peter Niven. Due Date may do best of the others.

14:32 – Doves Of Peace

DOVES OF PEACE is another who is yet to win a race, but he has displayed signs that he is capable of picking up a race of this nature, and he has hit the frame on his last four starts. He raced too freely in a steadily-run race over seven furlongs at Kempton last time, and that told in the finish when he didn’t find as much as looked likely. The drop back to six furlongs looks a good move now and this is probably the weakest race he has contested yet. Peachey Carnehan, a multiple course and distance winner, including on his latest start, and Jumira Bridge head the dangers.

15:02 – Muscika

MUSCIKA isn’t getting any younger, but he is still a more than capable performer, and he was only just headed in the dying strides at Lingfield five days ago. He broke well that day, controlling the race from the front, but unlucky to meet a well-handicapped sort who has returned in excellent form. Muscika lost little in defeat and he may prove hard to catch turned out from the same mark in what is a weaker race. The progressive Bright looks the obvious threat.

15:32 – Prince Maxi

PRINCE MAXI showed ability in what has turned out to be a strong novice event over a mile and a quarter at Newmarket at the Craven meeting, but he hasn’t been seen since, and has also left Richard Hannon. He has joined another good yard, though, and looks very interesting on his return to action. Lovealot Bear defied massive odds when making a winning Flat debut at Kempton but there’s no reason to doubt the form so she’s next best under a penalty, while useful-hurdler Parramount warrants respect on his belated Flat bow.

16:07 – Arcadian Nights

ARCADIAN NIGHTS goes particularly well at this track (four-time course winner) and his latest win came over this course and distance from a 1 lb lower mark. He ran his best race for a while back at this venue last month, rather unfortunate to bump into a less-exposed rival who has run well since, and he may be ready to resume winning ways from just 1 lb higher. Master of Combat, Ernie’s Valentine and Warren Hill head up the dangers in what rates a very competitive affair.

16:37 – Optik

This is a strong race for the grade with several last-time-out winners, two of whom arrive on a sequence. OPTIK arrives in pursuit of a four-timer and, for all the official margin was just a short head at Newcastle last time, he had much more in hand, not having to be fully extended to prevail, so he is marginally preferred to Optician, who bids to make it three from three for his current yard. Rubeus is also of interest.

17:07 – Rockley Point

ROCKLEY POINT has been in good order for a while and, having only been denied by a neck at Newcastle a week ago, he’s worth a chance to go one better in what looks to be a good opportunity. Toplight and Red Walls are the only other pair that arrive in form, so they’re the main dangers.
