In the fifth of this year’s Paddy Power Media’s ‘From The Horse’s Mouth’ podcast ‘Cheltenham Countdown’, host Tom Nugent together with former champion jockey turned tv pundit Ruby Walsh and well-known journalist and broadcaster Rory Delargy, look at the Baring Bingham Novices Hurdle on day two of the 2024 Cheltenham Festival.

If you consider the Golden Cygnet Novice Hurdle as the trial for the Baring Bingham Novices Hurdle, then more questions were thrown up than answers.
The main thought is that you want Ballyburn on side if it looks like he’s going to go for the Baring Bingham and not going the Supreme Novices Hurdle. Apart from Ballyburn’s obvious claims – it looks reasonably open. You’re likely to get an Irish winner this year again, but there doesn’t seem too much depth in quality in the market.
Harry Fry’s Gidleigh Park is a decent horse but he needs to do a little more if he’s to win the Baring Bingham. I’m not firmly in his corner as I’m not certain he’s a Cheltenham Festival winner-in-waiting, but he’s clearly a good horse.

Caldwell Potter could be worth keeping an eye on. It’s hard to know where we stand with him now after he was sold to Paul Nicholls for €740,000 at Monday’s dispersal sale In Ireland. No one’s backing him at the moment but he’s a decent price and you have to remember he bolted up in Grade 1 company ahead of Predators Gold at Christmas.
We know what the family can do and he’s got a great pedigree. He has all of the attributes to win the Baring Bingham. I’d take a chance on him with the Non Runner Money Back offer in play.
