13:50 Classic King

This is quite a puzzle, but CLASSIC KING is the form pick, and he’s given another chance to prove his worth following his defeat when 2-5 at Doncaster. Centara does not look straightforward, but he’s won both of his races when at this track and may represent the chief danger. Super Sabre Sam was in the process of running a good race against him when coming down at the final flight here last time, so he’s considered seriously, along with The Doyen Chief, who also failed to complete last time out but has good form.

14:20 Secret Squirrel

Fire Flyer did not come under pressure to win by a wide margin last Thursday. But he faces vastly more demanding opposition this time in the shape of SECRET SQUIRREL, who has met with only one defeat in four races, and that was at the hands of a Henderson-trained rival who is single-figure prices for the Supreme Novices’ at Cheltenham in March. This pair set a high standard, so Exeter winner Moorefields needs to take another big step forward, and dual point winner Move With The Beat will have to be good if he’s to make this a winning first appearance under rules.

14:50 Bold Reaction

Rewired looks reliable and can put up another bold show, but a slight preference is for BOLD REACTION, who has had less racing and whose reappearance second at Doncaster reads well. Three Cliffs Bay is unexposed and needs a close look back down in trip on his handicap debut, but he has a bit more to prove with his hurdles form having come on heavy ground at Ffos Las.

15:20 Our Nel

This can go to lightly raced mare OUR NEL, who drops back in trip after finishing third behind two subsequent winners on her chasing debut in December. Howyouplaythegame is a danger if judged on his big run in defeat at Doncaster two starts ago. Herecomeshogan is next on the list, having recently suggested he may be able to exploit some help from the handicapper.

15:50 Golden Ace

The hardy Manimole should fare a lot better than on her latest start but gives 4lb to GOLDEN ACE, who was a Grade 2 runner-up in an Aintree bumper and won at this track at the first time of asking over hurdles. Jeremy Scott’s mare is readily preferred. Brendas Asking, Linda Moon and Politacus (not far behind the selection at Aintree) can fight it out for third.

16:20 Sure Touch (nap)

Neon Moon will be a tough nut to crack at this level if back on song, while once-smart 10yo Magic Saint has become far too well handicapped to oppose with confidence. However, there is more to come from SURE TOUCH (nap), who was nudged up only 2lb for winning a tactical race at Uttoxeter in December and will be suited by today’s return to forecast good ground.

16:50 Commanding View

The three last-time-out winners look the ones to focus on, with the unexposed COMMANDING VIEW preferred to the four-timer seeking Gyllen, ahead of the Plumpton November winner Stanley Pincombe.
