        13:25 Sandown – Jingko Blue

ITV Racing is busy at the weekend and coverage Saturday starts here with a novices’ handicap hurdle over 2m4f. Hard to get away from JINGKO BLUE who has looked promising for Nicky Henderson and is proven at the trip. James Bowen takes the ride on the Newbury winner who should not have a problem on soft ground and can jump better than he did in victory so probably has much more to come. A mark of 124 could be very fair indeed, although the Newbury runner-up was stuffed on its next start.

        13:40 Musselburgh – Monmiral

ITV also go to Musselburgh Saturday starting here with a novices’ limited handicap chase over an extended 2m4f. At his best MONMIRAL would absolutely outclass this lot even under 11st 10lb but it’s hard to know what he can deliver right now after a tame seventh at Cheltenham. Remember this is the horse that chased home Epatante in the Aintree Hurdle, a Grade 1, in 2022.

If he can run anywhere near that he would be a good thing. Oddly has always looked like a chaser – but never quite made it for the champion Paul Nicholls.

        14:00 Sandown – Harpers Brook

Next up a handicap chase over nearly 2m. HARPERS BROOK – a confirmed dodegpot – comes with a government health warning and everyone knows he can throw this away. That said, he’s very capable off 136 and he has a decent chance of an easy lead here under Ben Jones for Ben Pauling.

It just depends what happens when push comes to shove! Ran well at Ascot last time when he should have won.

            14:15 Musselburgh – Enrilo (each-way)

Here’s the Edinburgh National Handicap Chase over nearly 4m. It’s a long time since ENRILO has showed any decent form and it’s not as if the handicapper has dropped him stones. That said, this is a chance off 135 with Angus Cheleda taking off another 5lb for champion Paul Nicholls. His fourth at Wincanton was better than it looked on paper (only beat two home) as he actually got outpaced but then stayed on again from two out. I’ll chance each-way.

            14:35 Sandown – Djelo

The big one of the day in the Grade 1 Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase over 2m4f. I’ll chance DJELO against Hermes Allen as the former loves heavy ground and has been really getting his act together over fences. As a hurdler he was a bit of a hooligan and never fulfilled his promise, but he’s been good at Aintree, Newbury and Ascot and you can forget his fall at Lingfield as he was knocked over. Luckily he appears to be fine.

            14:50 Musselburgh – Parisencore (each-way)

Now a handicap hurdle over nearly 2m. Benson did this column a right favour last time and he might go in again. However, I’ll back PARISENCORE each-way for Nicky Richards and Danny McMenamin who ran at Doncaster last time when I was at the track. He didn’t do badly and lost his front left shoe which can’t have helped. This sharp track will suit and he’s an each-way chance.

            15:00 Leopardstown – Canal End

ITV throw in some Irish racing including this handicap hurdle over an extended 3m. CANAL END is lightly raced and stepped up to this trip last time with a fair third at Navan. This is tougher, but the Peter Fahey runner could be open to masses of improvement and Mark Walsh takes the ride. Could easily be good enough off 125.

                    15:10 Sandown – Transmission (each-way)

A handicap hurdle over nearly 3m. TRANSMISSION has only gone up 6lb for a remarkable win at Plumpton last time – rider lost irons – and has really appreciated a step up in trip for his new trainer Neil Mulholland. Joe Anderson, who did so well last time, is back up on board and they really should have solid each-way claims as the conditions hold no fears.

15:35 Leopardstown – Galopin Des Champs

Now the big one in Ireland, the Grade 1 and fantastically sponsored Paddy Power Gold Cup over an extended 3m. This is easy. I’m a huge GALOPIN DES CHAMPS fan and put him up at 11-4 for the Gold Cup after his defeat first time out this season which I thought was a good run but bookmakers did not! I fully expect him to revenge recent defeats by Fastorslow here for Willie Mullins and Paul Townend. Odds will be short.

                    15:45 Sandown – Certainly Red

A handicap chase over 3m. CERTAINLY RED often reserves his best efforts for this track and a mark of 135 is down from 142 when he was a decent seventh in the big handicap at this track back in April. The ten-year-old, trained by Lydia Richards, was a fair third here two runs ago and he’ll be hard to keep out the frame for Marc Goldstein.
