12:05 Burdett Road

BURDETT ROAD was a Royal Ascot winner on the Flat and he has made an excellent start to his career over hurdles, landing the odds in style on his debut and looking well above average when following up in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham last time.

He displayed a smart turn of foot on that occasion under a very confident ride, and he is strongly fancied to maintain his unbeaten record in this sphere. Sir Gino also created a good impression on his British debut at Kempton and looks the obvious danger.

12:40 Threatre Man

It is another cracking renewal of the Timeform Novices’ Handicap Chase and THEATRE MAN is chanced to come out on top. He has shaped with plenty of promise in a couple of starts over fences so far, finishing runner-up to a very well-handicapped sort on debut and bumping into a potential graded performer last time.

Both of those runs came at around three miles, but he went with plenty of enthusiasm on both occasions, and the drop to two and a half miles may be the making of him. Theatre Man is taken to prove ahead of his mark and prove too strong for Ginny’s Destiny, who also has some strong form, while Prairie Wolf is also considered.

13:15 Il Ridoto

IL RIDOTO won this race last year from a 10lb lower mark and his form round here is hard to argue with. He finished third to stablemate Stage Star on his return and was caught right on the line in another competitive handicap over course and distance last time having looked to have spreadeagled the field.

He is 5lb higher now, but seems sure to run his race, and you can’t pick many holes in him. Victtorino has proved a revelation since switching to Venetia Williams and is feared most, whilst Excello and Hitman are also very much respected.

13:50 Datsalrightgino

This looks a wide-open renewal of the Cotswold Chase so a chance can be taken on DATSALRIGHTGINO, who produced a clear career-best effort when winning the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury last time.

That effort gives him a big chance in this field, especially given that he remains open to improvement as a chaser, and he is arguably more progressive than the majority of his rivals. He shades the vote over exciting novice Stay Away Fay, who is unbeaten over fences, and also has a cracking attitude.

14:25 Jonbon

A fourth Clarence House staged here in the past 11 years following an abandonment at Ascot the previous week and with El Fabiolo staying at home, this looks a gilt-edged opportunity for JONBON to register an eighth success over fences before again locking horns with Willie Mullins’ superstar in the Champion Chase at the Festival.

Editeur du Gite rates as the obvious threat, while December Gold Cup winner Fugitif adds another layer of intrigue having another crack at graded level.

15:00 Lossiemouth

LOSSIEMOUTH is the class act in this field and, while she’s been off the track longer than connections would have liked, she should be straight enough to make a successful reappearance in what doesn’t look the strongest renewal on the International. Love Envoi is an obvious danger in the expectation that she comes on for her reappearance, and Rubaud is respected having been beaten only by Constitution Hill last time.

15:35 Paisley Park

PAISLEY PARK has yet to get his head in front this season but has gone with all his old verve in two narrow defeats so far this season, so this remarkable stayer is fancied to bag a fourth Cleeve Hurdle victory.

Dashel Drasher is another most likeable hurdler but he again might have to settle for runner-up spot on the same terms as when he and Paisley Park met in the Long Walk Hurdle at Kempton, though Flight Deck, Champ and Botox Has can’t be discounted either in a cracking renewal of the Cleeve Hurdle.

16:10 Antrim Coast

An intriguing renewal of this Grade 2 contest. Preference is for Irish-raider ANTRIM COAST, who went down all guns blazing in a useful novice event here last time, form which was boosted when the winner followed up in a strong handicap on New Year’s Day.

The unbeaten Gidleigh Park is an exciting prospect and is greatly respected, albeit he’s likely to be plenty short enough in the betting, all things considered. Johnnywho is a promising type and merits respect, too.
