12:35 – Kates Hill

KATES HILL was well beaten on her first three starts over fences, but she showed improved dropped to two miles on her handicap debut when runner-up at Naas last month. She was a shade unfortunate to bump into an especially well-handicapped rival who has won again since on that occasion. That form is strong and this doesn’t look the deepest race of its type, so she makes most appeal back up in trip. Rolly Bowley Boy also shaped well last time and may prove the danger.

13:05 – Blood Destiny

A good renewal of this Grade 3 and one where BLOOD DESTINY is expected to come out on top. He was a useful juvenile hurdler last season, but immediately bettered that form when making a winning start over fences at Naas last month, looking a complete natural, gaining ground on his rivals at a number of obstacles with some fast, fluent leaps. This will demand more, but he is an exciting prospect who needs keeping on the right side at the moment. Imagine, who is penalised for his win in a Grade 2 here last time, looks the obvious danger.

13:35 – Mystical Power

Willie Mullins has an excellent record in this race and he holds a strong hand in this year’s renewal. The pick of his two runners could be MYSTICAL POWER, who has an outstanding pedigree, by Galileo and the first foal of top-class hurdler Annie Power. He won a bumper in May and looked well above average when following up on his hurdles debut at Galway in July, powering away from his rivals in the style of a very smart novice. There should be plenty more to come from him, too, so he is expected to take this step up in grade in his stride on his return from a break. French recruit and stablemate Lombron may emerge as the biggest threat after his cosy win starting out for this yard at Thurles.

14:05 – Lisnagar Fortune

Lots of potential on show here, not least Willie Mullins’ useful bumper scorer LISNAGAR FORTUNE, who has shaped well in two starts over hurdles thus far, and is now fancied to open his account in this sphere before tackling better company. Jasko des Dames rates a big threat, though, on the back of his promising debut at Navan, while the returning Mercurey, debutant Muhtaluza and unexposed Old Port all have better days ahead of them too and need factoring into the equation, also.

      14:35 – Mitiva

MITIVA made a winning start in a bumper at Thurles just under two years ago and, while she is yet to win over hurdles, she has been shaping well in defeat recently. She has hit the frame on her last three starts in handicaps, not settling fully in a steadily-run race at Tramore last time and only staying on at the same pace at the finish. Mitiva goes in a first-time hood now and, in a race which should be run at a true gallop, she should give another good account of herself. Henry de Bromhead’s Whotookthebiscuit should have more to offer on the back of last month’s Clonmel maiden success and is feared most.

      15:05 – Everystep Oftheway

EVERYSTEP OFTHEWAY didn’t achieve that much over hurdles, but he made a promising start to his career over fences at Clonmel in November, shaping better than the distance beaten suggests. He jumped fine, still in contention at the third-last and, though he dropped away in the straight, he left the impression he has the potential to do better over fences. That form isn’t working out badly at all and he is worth supporting to build on that initial promise. Glenmalure Lodge is the solid alternative and Mahlers Cove can’t be ruled out, either.

      15:35 – Young Dev

YOUNG DEV is well treated on the pick of his form, and he left the firm impression that he was in need of the run on his return from 12 months off in a handicap hurdle at Limerick over Christmas, so he’s worth chancing to make a winning return to chasing. The Flier Begley is likely to give his running again and Hardwired can’t be dismissed.
