15:40 Verona Star

The new trip increases interest in Awesome Spirit, yet to fire in Britain but representing shrewd connections. A chance is nevertheless taken on VERONA STAR, down significantly in class on this second start for Tony Carroll and paired with a rider who got off the mark last week. Neither Finn Russell nor (especially) Graffiti have been dealt with harshly for recent gains, and the latter is offered as second choice.

16:15 Bishops Glory

It hardly needs saying that Mumayaz (second best) owes his most ardent supporters a favour or two after so many seconds of late, but there isn’t a lack of options for those unwilling to go in headlong with him again. BISHOPS GLORY overcame a worse draw than today’s in a three-year-olds’ C&D 0-65 last time, for which a 2lb rise is anything but harsh.

    16:45 Verdansk

If VERDANSK can reproduce the form he’s shown when placed in two AW handicaps since joining Henry Candy he’ll likely get off the mark. Mapogo showed promise over slightly further here on his recent Flat debut and can provide the chief threat ahead of Hombre.

    17:15 True Statesman

The form of the race TRUE STATESMAN was third in last time has been boosted so he’s given a chance to build on what was comfortably his most encouraging run of the year. Gavi Di Gavi might have needed a recent outing at Chelmsford and goes well here (four wins) so he’s second choice ahead of Ernie’s Valentine and Gincident.

    17:45 Rousing Encore

Mick Appleby’s duo Baldomero (second choice) and Starshiba bring solid credentials to the table but ROUSING ENCORE made a promising return from a break when fifth at Lingfield and Richard Fahey’s useful winning juvenile can capitalise on a reduced mark. Conquistador also commands plenty of respect in a competitive sprint.

        18:15 One Night Stand

A case can be made for a few of these but ONE NIGHT STAND bounced back to winning ways in some style at Lingfield last time and can make light of a 7lb rise in the weights. Recent Newcastle scorer Pepsi Cat is feared most ahead of C&D winners Nelson Gay and Ramon Di Loria.

        18:45 Crafter (NAP)

A number of these arrive with question marks against them so this looks an excellent opportunity for the rejuvenated CRAFTER (NAP) to follow up his recent C&D success. Shaheen Saqaar appeals as the one to chase home Mark Loughnane’s 5yo now reverted in trip with Ebury rating the pick of the rest for minor honours.

        19:15 Taxiing

Take Bath specialist Blue Hero out of calculations, and the remaining eight runners are collectively 1-74 in 2023. Isle Of Wolves (second best) and Swing To The Stars are at least relatively solid place options, and Mitigator is as interesting on one ageing piece of C&D form as on this month’s Chelmsford second.

However, David Evans probably wouldn’t need to elicit a lot of improvement from TAXIING for his Irish acquisition to open her account, and she’s risked.
