12:40 – Idefix De Ciergues

An interesting opener, featuring several unexposed sorts in this staying handicap hurdle for novices. IDEFIX DE CIERGUES promises to be well suited by this step up to three miles and gets the vote to make a successful switch to handicap company for Rebecca Curtis after shaping like a stayer on his hurdling debut at Ffos Las and then running well despite dropping back in trip when runner-up in a maiden hurdle at Bangor last time. Wrappedupinmay, who finished in front of the selection at Ffos Las, Top Cloud, who has thrived since switching to Robbie Llewellyn, and Micro Millions head the many dangers.

13:15 – Solo

13:50 – Cap Du Mathan

It was a strong handicap in which CAP DU MATHAN was an encouraging fourth to Boothill on his reappearance at this course last month and, with that run under his belt and reunited with Harry Cobden, he is appealing off this 2 lb lower mark. Triple Trade also performed well behind Boothill in a similarly valuable handicap here last time and looks a big threat, while Shan Blue is dangerous to discount having slipped to a potentially handy mark, for all that he has a fair bit to prove at present.

14:25 – Crambo

The staying hurdle ranks are pretty threadbare at the moment but if there’s an up-and-comer it could be CRAMBO, who caught the eye with his fast-finishing third in a big-field handicap at Haydock four weeks ago and, with the services of experienced pilot Johnny Burke enlisted, Fergal O’Brien’s six-year-old can make his second outing at the top table a winning one. Veterans Paisley Park (bidding for a fourth success in this), Dashel Drasher, who beat the latter when receiving weight at Newbury last time, and Champ who won this first time up in 2021 and comes here fresh again head up the opposition.

 

15:00 – Blackjack Magic

Plenty with chances in the big handicap chase on the card, the Silver Cup, but there was a lot to like about the reappearance success of BLACKJACK MAGIC in Wincanton’s Badger Beer Handicap Chase, form which has been franked since, so Anthony Honeyball’s progressive chaser is taken to emerge on top of the pack. Gavin Cromwell’s Yeah Man is feared most having looked sure to go close when coming down at the final fence over course and distance last time. Top weight Victtorino, the winner that day, must also enter calculations. Git Maker, Make Me A Believer and Hascoeur Clermont also need factoring into this cracking handicap.

15:35 – Altobelli

A smaller field than usual but there are several progressive sorts in a good-quality renewal of the Betfair Exchange Handicap Hurdle. Harry Fry’s ALTOBELLI impressed with the way he travelled into contention when second to Knickerbockerglory on his reappearance over this course and distance. He is taken to build on that promise and fend off the progressive J P McManus/Nicky Henderson pair Iberico Lord, winner of the Greatwood at Cheltenham last time, and Impose Toi, a ready winner of a novices’ handicap at the same meeting.
