Horse Racing tips: A 14/1 shout tops our best Taunton bets today

12:17 Abbey Hill

The form Izzy’s Grey showed when second on last month’s handicap debut looks very strong for the grade, while there could still be more to come from Top Cloud if the ground stays good here.

However, it’s hard to get away from ABBEYHILL, who travelled strongly and was too good for a subsequent winner when opening his account at Plumpton ten days ago. He’s effectively only 3lb higher here and will be at least another 5lb higher in future.

12:50 Go To War

Dual course winner Matterhorn is evidently useful but this is stronger than his last race and he has a double penalty to deal with. Ballee ran a nice first race for his new connections at Wincanton but preference is for GO TO WAR, who had some respectable bumper form and he might well have justified market confidence on his hurdling debut but for jinking and unseating his rider three out.

 

13:25 Hardy Boy

Walkinthewoods is 3lb ahead of the handicapper after keeping on well to go close on his recent chasing debut at Ffos Las but he encounters a different trip-and-ground combination here and the answer might be HARDY BOY, who moves back up to 2m7f after finishing well over 2m3f at Doncaster a fortnight ago. Furkash has a very modest strike-rate but should also feature.

14:00 Will Carver

Chasing is reportedly on the agenda for WILL CARVER but he might take this en route as a case can be made for him being well handicapped.

Afadil arrives here under a cloud after his dreadful display in the Greatwood and he now goes in headgear, while the distress signals were already out for Decorated when he blundered at Wetherby. Therefore, Forever William is recommended as the selection’s principal threat.

 

14:35 Abingworth

He has not looked a natural chaser but ABINGWORTH ran a big race in defeat behind a very progressive rival at Huntingdon 16 days ago and could be hard to beat if he puts together a reasonably fluent round of jumping here.

Famoso looked in very good nick when fending off a warm favourite at Ludlow recently and is feared most. Course winner Flash Gorcombe is a contender if last month’s run did him good.

15:10 Atreides

Sailed Away and ATREIDES come here after finishing second on their handicap debuts and both have plenty of scope for further progress.

Slight preference is for the latter who tired in the closing stages on heavy ground at Uttoxeter 12 days ago but may benefit from the return to a quicker surface here. Nathan Walker makes her handicap debut today and will be feared if lively in the betting, while Imperial Measure probably won’t be far away.

15:45 Noble Savage (NAP)

Edeiffs Rock made a solid start to life in handicaps when runner-up at Plumpton and this longer trip could bring her on again as there’s stamina in the pedigree. Course winner Karakoram can’t be ruled out off his current mark but NOBLE SAVAGE (NAP) is preferred after running well over a trip short of his best when reappearing from a lengthy break at Hereford.
