11:55 Ottizzini

OTTIZZINI built on earlier promise when opening her account over hurdles at Downpatrick in May, form which has been boosted since, and she is best not judged too harshly on her return to action in a Grade 3 at Down Royal earlier this month.

She was flying too high on that occasion, but sets the standard on form quickly down in grade, and is expected to get back on the up. Both The Kalooki Kid and Lavida Adiva have better days ahead of them and appeal as the duo to chase the selection home.

12:25 Three Yorkshiremen

The betting will obviously tell a tale given a couple are hurdling debutants, but preference is for THREE YORKSHIREMEN, who was a little expensive to follow on the Flat for Richard Fahey, but could well be up to making a winning start in this sphere for his new stable.

There was enough promise in Cofficionado’s hurdling debut effort, so he’s put forward as the main danger, with Leap Year Lad rounding off the shortlist.

13:00 Garde Des Champs

GARDE DES CHAMPS showed improved form to open his account over hurdles at Perth in convincing fashion in the summer and he caught the eye on his chase debut having been weak in the market at Wetherby last month.

He has the physique for chasing, and he put in some good late work which also caught the attention of the stewards (rider subsequently suspended for 10 days for failing to obtain the best possible placing).

There should be plenty more to come from him in this sphere and, while he will be suited by further than this, he remains on an attractive mark. Restandbethankful and Neigh Botha head up the dangers.

13:35 Autumn Return

AUTUMN RETURN won a couple of times over hurdles last season at Catterick and Perth, the latest of those from a BHA mark of 112, and she made a sound return to action over two miles at Kelso last month. That was her first start for six months, and she really started to motor home after jumping the last, leaving the impression she would relish this return to two and a half miles.

Autumn Rose is just 1lb higher now and seems sure to launch another bold bid. Nowinittowinit is an obvious danger in the hat-trick bid and Never No Trouble can’t be dismissed, either.

14:10 Bashful

BASHFUL won a handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter around this time last year and has since gone on to win four times on the Flat, the latest of those from a BHA mark of 77 over a mile and a quarter at Ayr last month.

He wasn’t in the same form on the all-weather at Newcastle last time, but from a handicapping perspective, he looks very interesting now going back over hurdles from a mark in the mid-90s which should be well within his reach based on his Flat ability.

Ip Up is an obvious danger on the back of last week’s comfortable Fakenham success, while Perth novice winner Bix Beiderbecke is a potential improver in handicaps.

14:45 Magna Sam

MAGNA SAM couldn’t have enjoyed much more of an upturn in form than he did in a couple of outings for Alastair Ralph last term, winning here in February before an excellent fifth in the Scottish National at Ayr (shaped second best for much of the way), and he can make it four from four at this track now back down in class and trip.

Half Shot looks set for another good season, while Inis Oirr remains with potential in this sphere.

15:20 Theirshegoes

The Sandy Thomson stable has been showing much better signs in recent days, so THEIRSHEGOES gets the nod to build on an encouraging return at Kelso last time.

She shaped as though she would come on a fair bit for the run on that occasion and this slightly shorter trip should also be in her favour. Native Fighter hasn’t won for a long time but stopped the slide at Cartmel in August and is too well handicapped to ignore, while course and distance winner Rickety Gate completes the shortlist.
