Horse Racing Tips: Timeform’s nifty Newbury picks on Thursday including an 11/2 shout

The racing boffins at Timeform have a pick for every race on the Jumps card at Newbury - and they like Inch House in the 13:15.

12:05 – Brookie
12:40 – Willmount
13:15 – Inch House

12:05 – Brookie

Brookie was a fairly useful sort in Ireland and he looked better than ever when making a successful stable debut for Anthony Honeyball at Fontwell last month. Brookie travelled fluently and readily pulled clear of a well-treated rival who gave the form a boost by registering a comfortable win of his own on his next outing. A 6 lb rise in the weights looks fair enough given the style of success and subsequent form boost, and he could still have a bit more to offer for this yard.

12:40 – Willmount

Willmount fetched £340,000 after winning his only point and he looked a good prospect when making a winning debut under Rules for Neil Mulholland in a Doncaster bumper in January. Willmount extended his unbeaten record with a routine success back in a Doncaster bumper and he appeals as a good prospect for novice hurdling. He has joined Nicky Henderson who has won this novice with some useful sorts in Claimantakinforgan and Dusart in recent years.

13:15 – Inch House

Irish point winner Inch House progressed well over hurdles, winning a Chepstow novice on his final outing in that sphere, and he made a promising start over fences when third on his reappearance at Chepstow last month. Inch House was beaten around 15 lengths in third but arguably did well to get as close as that given the severity of his one notable error. He has more to offer in this sphere and appeals as being on a decent mark.

13:50 – Break My Soul

Break My Soul is a half-sister to several winners, including the useful Whoshotthesheriff, and she fetched £290,000 after winning her only start in an Irish point. She has joined Nicky Henderson and starts out in a race the trainer often targets with a decent mare (he won it in 2018 and 2020 and sent out the runner-up in 2017, 2109 and 2021). She makes appeal on paper.

14:25 – Equinus

Equinus is prone to the odd jumping mistake and wasn’t foot perfect on his return at Aintree last month, but he still ran out a decisive winner, seemingly relishing the three-mile trip. Equinus escapes a penalty for that five-length success as it was achieved in a race restricted to conditional jockeys and, with James Turner back in the saddle (albeit claiming 3 lb less this time), he is well clear on Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings and looks the one to beat here.

15:00 – Northern Bound

Northern Bound has been without a win since landing this event 12 months ago but he is able to compete off a 9 lb lower mark this time around. He had disappointed on his penultimate start at Bangor but, after undergoing another breathing operation, he got back on the right track when third at Wetherby last month despite seeming in need of a stronger gallop. He’s clearly well handicapped on some of his form and is worth siding with back at the scene of his latest triumph.

15:35 – Gentleman’s Relish

Gentleman’s Relish showed little when down the field in a valuable bumper over this course and distance in March but he was sent off the 7/2 second favourite on that occasion and was described by Timeform’s reporter as the pick of the field on looks. He’s presumably thought capable of better and is worth another chance for his leading yard.

16:10 – Histrionic

Histrionic makes appeal on paper as he fetched €450,000 after running out a comfortable winner on his only outing in an Irish point and he starts out here for British champion jumps trainer Paul Nicholls. Histrionic is by leading jumps sire Walk In The Park and is out of a winning hurdler who is a sister to the smart staying chaser Kimberlite Candy.
