13.15 Cheltenham – Before Midnight
ITV go jumping at Cheltenham starting with this handicap chase over 2m. Quite an open affair and remember the ground is not as testing here as you might think it would be. BEFORE MIDNIGHT is a well handicapped horse and showed enough over hurdles last time to suggest he will be ready for this for Fergal O’Brien. Ben Sutton takes 7lb off and he can run off 135 here having been 148 back in the day when he was a good sixth in a big field at Aintree off that mark.
13.50 Cheltenham – Blueking D’oroux
Here’s a conditions hurdle for four-year-olds over an extended 2m. On paper BLUEKING D’OROUX is a good thing here for Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden, although the price suggests it won’t be quite as easy as that with Spirit d’Aunou in the field. The Nicholls hope was a fine second to Punctuation at Aintree in April and if repeating that will be hard to stop.
14:10 Doncaster – Devils Point
Inspection at 7.30am permitting, ITV are also at Doncaster Saturday and begin here with what for many would be the big race of the day in the Group 1 Kameko Futurity for youngsters over a mile. The outsider worth a few quid on eachway is DEVIL’S POINT for the massively in-form David Menuisier and Oisin Murphy. A mudlover is what you are going to need, and while Devil’s Point might not be the best of these ultimately he goes with plenty of juice. Obviously he never really got involved in France last time in Group 3 company but that was a strong race and he plugged on and might keep running here when others have given up.
14.25 Cheltenham – Kinondo Kwetu
A handicap chase over 3m1f. A decent betting heat. It’s not going to be easy for KINONDO KWETU as there may well be improvers lower in the weights but I really like this horse for jockey Jonathan and trainer Sam England. He has to hump 12st off 145 but I know connections feel they were a little unlucky off that mark at Uttoxeter last time. Stays well and has a first visit to Cheltenham. I’ll risk a few quid eachway.

14:45 Doncaster – Ballymount Boy
Now a Listed race for two-year-olds over 6f. Again stamina is going to be everything. For that reason BALLYMOUNT BOY might be the one to be with for James Doyle and Adrian Keatley. My hope has been running over 7f recently including when second at York in the Acomb on a fastish surface. However, he was a fine second at Glorious Goodwood in mud for the Richmond and it’s that form which gives him a huge chance.
15.00 Cheltenham – Judicial Law
Now a handicap hurdle over 3m. This might be too hot for JUDICIAL LAW but the horse is improving and should run a decent race for the Jonjo O’Neill team of trainer and son. Race fitness could be a big advantage and my hope is only up 3lb for a decent staying performance at Kelso last time. Stamina seems assured – it’s just a case of whether he’s up to scoring at a place like Cheltenham.
15:20 Doncaster – Aberama Gold
ITV close with this sprint handicap over 5f. ABERAMA GOLD is back to just 1lb higher than when landing the Stewards’ Cup at Glorious Goodwood in heavy ground and must have every chance of landing another decent pot with the juice in the ground. Danny Tudhope rides for David O’Meara. Has to have an eachway chance if on a going day.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
