13.15 Cheltenham – Haddex Des Obeaux
Gary Moore’s Haddex Des Obeaux is on an upward curve and this track will really suit his aggressive style of racing. He is not dissimilar to Editeur du Gite who won plenty of races for connections. He is probably the most likely winner of this contest. I was tempted by In Excelsis Deo as a new prospect in the chasing ranks as he will love the fast pace. His form tailed off after winning at Hereford last season but he gets plenty of weight – 15lb off the selection. Keep an eye on the market as both make their season debuts.
13.50 Cheltenham – Blueking D’oroux
The only concern I have is that Blueking DOroux’s first run in the UK was at this track and he disappointed. He did perform much better in the second half of last season though for connections, culminating in a good win in a valuable contest at Ascot, beating stablemate Afadil over hurdles. The latter ran in the opener here on Friday.
14.25 Cheltenham – Amirite
The seven-year-old Amirite was a good winner at Fairyhouse over fences first time out last season and finished third in two graded novice chases after that. He disappointed when favourite for the Irish Grand National but trainer Henry de Bromhead will have him primed for this contest. Lord Accord is the obvious danger having won this contest last season and is just 1lb higher in the weights. He’s already had a run and is following the same route that carried him to victory last season.
15.00 Cheltenham – Bugs Moran
There’s a lot of Irish runners in this race but Noel Meade’s Bugs Moran was a very good second in a competitive contest at Listowel over 2m 4f in September. He ran well when second at Punchestown over 3m and the return to that trip should suit him perfectly. I can see him finishing strongly. Willie Mullins is always to be respected and Well’havewan has a good profile. It was a tight call which one I went for but Bugs Moran appears to jump better so that swung it for me.

15.35 Cheltenham – Antrim Coast
Gavin Cromwell could be in for a very good weekend and Keith Donoghoe is riding lots of winners at the moment so it may pay to stick with this team. Antrim Coast was a good winner at Punchestown last time in a maiden hurdle, the drying ground will not be a problem. This son of Presenting should get the job done.
16.10 Cheltenham – Flooring Porter
It’s really interesting to see the former dual Stayers Hurdle champion over fences. He is quirky and that will be the only reason he gets beaten. He is a short price and will probably have you chewing your fingernails watching him but he is the best in the race on ratings and with a clear around should win. Weveallbeencaught is one I really like and should be much better over fences. He may need Flooring Porter to have a mishap to take advantage on this occasion though.
16:45 Cheltenham – Soir De Gala
We end the two-day meet with a National Hunt Flat race where Paul Nicholls’ Soir De Gala was third at Wincanton where he had to make the running. The second, Kintail, has won since to boost the form and with Soir De Gala having a wind operation since that contest, he looks to be a leading player now.
