14:20 – Cerulean Way

CERULEAN BAY, who boasts a good pedigree being by New Bay and a half-brother to several winners including a couple of useful types, found plenty for pressure to make a winning debut in an interesting maiden at Hamilton last month. That was over six furlongs and the way he stayed on there, allied with the stamina New Bay imparts, suggests that he should appreciate this step up in trip. He can improve on the form of his debut effort and defy a penalty here.

14:55 – Manila Scouse

MANILA SCOUSE doesn’t have many miles on the clock for a sprinter and he shaped well when runner-up in a five-furlong handicap at Beverley on his penultimate start, sticking to his task nicely and pulling clear of the remainder. He ran respectably when fourth in a competitive Sunday Series Handicap over six furlongs at Pontefract last time and he’s still relatively unexposed at this trip.

15:30 – Berry Edge

BERRY EDGE has been running well this season and gave another good account of himself when runner-up at Beverley last month, collared late on after failing to put the race to bed when striking for home from a good position. Berry Edge had no excuses on that occasion, though the form is working out well and he remains on a competitive mark so looks worth siding with in this event. The blinkers that were applied for the first time on his latest outing are back on again.

16:05 – Ravenscraig Castle

RAVENSCRAIG CASTLE is on a losing run that stretches back nearly two years but he shaped really well when runner-up at Carlisle last time, coming from further back than ideal and also making his ground out in the centre of the track on a day where it seemed a big advantage to challenge close to the stand rail. Ravenscraig Castle steps back up in trip here but that’s not a concern for this course-and-distance winner, who is fitted with a visor for the first time in a bid to bring about a bigger effort.

16:40 – Deputy

DEPUTY progressed well towards the end of last season, registering back-to-back handicap wins at Thirsk and Doncaster, and he has shaped with promise in defeat on both starts this term. He ran on well, offering encouragement, when fifth on his reappearance at Redcar and duly stepped up on that form when runner-up at Doncaster last time, leaving the impression he’s capable of an even bigger effort under the right circumstances.

17:15 – The Caltonian

THE CALTONIAN failed to make much of an impact in three starts over further in maidens but he showed much-improved form over this course and distance when runner-up on his handicap debut last month. The Caltonian did a bit wrong, breaking slowly, hanging left over a furlong out and carrying his head a bit awkwardly, but he was still beaten just half a length by the thriving winner who was completing a hat-trick. He could still do better as a sprinter and is worth siding with.
