Horse Racing Tips: A 4/1 NAP leads the way at Salisbury today

Grandfather Tom has caught the eye in the 14:40 and is the Racing Post's NAP at Salisbury.

14:10 – Watcha Matey

The vote goes to Hugo Palmer’s WATCHA MATEY, who sets a fair standard on his rallying second at Haydock two weeks ago and is open to more progress on this step up in trip. Jubilee Walk looks the part on paper and he’s feared most with Oisin Murphy booked on his debut, though there are some other newcomers who need a close look including Aragon Castle and Crimson Road.

14:40 – Grandfather Tom (NAP)

An interesting race in which the vote goes to the admirable 8yo GRANDFATHER TOM (NAP), who has won four of his last five starts and was as good as ever with his dominant display at Leicester 11 days ago. The main threat could come from Redredrobin, who has a record of 3-5 this season and was unchallenged over 6f here last time. Third choice is Sampers Seven, who is on a dangerous mark and looks interesting on this big drop back in grade.

 

15:10 – Equity Law

Top of the list is EQUITY LAW, who made a bold bid when runner-up behind an odds-on rival over same course and distance (C&D) two weeks ago and sets a good standard on that promising debut effort. Rednblue Sovereign found more progress with his clear second at Sandown and he’s the main form danger, although States could make a serious impact if he can build on his creditable third at Newmarket last time. The most interesting newcomers are Ralph Beckett’s Sleven and Richard Hannon’s The Ferret.

15:40 – Skysail

Four-time turf winner Helm Rock ran well in a Class 2 event at Sandown last time and he should give it another good shot. Swift Lioness really kicked on again with her strong-finishing win over a clear second at Southwell 15 days ago but preference is for the other last-time-out winner in SKYSAIL. Marcus Tregoning’s colt improved his record to 2-4 when bolting up on his handicap debut at Goodwood last month and has plenty of scope for further progress.

16:10 – Spectacular Style

Sgian Dubh is one to note for the slightly longer term but today’s race probably rests between SPECTACULAR STYLE and Rajasthan. There is plenty to like about the Gosden runner, who makes his reappearance, but Roger Varian’s candidate got the hang of things in promising style behind another Gosden-trained 3yo at Redcar and looks sure to step up significantly from that debut performance.

16:40 – Maasai Mara

Krona twice finished hugely on top on the all weather (AW) in February, while Enochdhu stated his claims in May on his last two outings. Others have possibilities but preference is for MAASAI MARA following his staying-on fourth over 1m2f in a better race at Epsom, followed by Nader King on today’s step up from 1m2f. The selection had a solid piece of form at this trip on the Kempton AW back in April.

17:10 – Racing Demon

copDual Kempton winner Perfect Gentleman bounced back with a good second at Yarmouth last time and is a big player if he can back that up. Vegas Jack still has potential and could resume his progress back at this trip, while Goodwood Vision looks interesting upped to 1m on her handicap debut. However, it might be worth sticking with RACING DEMON, who has form figures of 22231 in 1m handicaps since April and still looks feasibly treated off 3lb higher than for his Chepstow win.
