ALL IS FAIR shaped with plenty of encouragement when finishing third on his debut at Haydock a couple of weeks ago, staying on well once the penny dropped. That form is the best on offer in this line-up and All Is Fair rates a very solid selection to get off the mark at the second attempt, with further progress on the cards as he gains in experience.
SOLDIER’S GOLD left his debut form well behind when filling the runner-up spot at Newbury last time, sticking to his task in likeable fashion. That appeals as a solid piece of form – the fourth has since finished a close-up fifth in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot – and Soldier’s Gold is another likely improver who should take plenty of beating in what doesn’t look the strongest novice event.
ALBEGREY returned from nine months off with a convincing win over this course and distance last week, drawing clear late on having gone through the race with notable ease. That was a career-best effort and a 5 lb penalty probably won’t be enough to prevent him from following up if arriving in the same sort of form after just nine days off.
VACCINE ran another solid race when finishing third on his latest outing at Pontefract, keeping on well with cheekpieces refitted. He still hasn’t won a race since making the switch to handicaps, but a BHA mark of 78 is workable judged on the balance of his form and today could be the day for him to finally resume winning ways if ready to go after eight weeks on the sidelines.
DREAM HARDER again shaped well when finishing second at York 11 days ago and the winner, Kihavah, gave the form a boost when completing the four-timer at Ayr on Saturday. Only 1 lb higher in the weights today, Dream Harder has a fine record since joining the Ian Williams yard and another big run seems assured under Ben Curtis, who is trying to win this race for the third year in a row.
VETIVER proved better than ever when finishing fourth on her handicap debut at Chester last month, just lacking a change of gear in very testing conditions. Still relatively unexposed after just four starts, she is back on better ground today and should be well capable of holding her own at this level if the application of a tongue strap can eke out a bit more improvement.
CLASSIC PUZZLE was out of her depth in a listed race at Musselburgh last time, but she could be worth a chance to resume her progress now back in calmer waters. She looked useful when opening her account in a Thirsk maiden the time before and the strength of that form suggests an opening BHA mark of 81 is unlikely to prove beyond her on handicap debut.
