Was a massive eyecatcher on his racecourse debut at Windsor after being slowly away over a furlong shorter. MATNOOKH wasn’t given a hard time and finished hard on the bridle right up behind the leaders in third spot, suggesting that a step up in trip is going to suit, and he looks to have stamina in abundance.
His form from last season is rock solid, including a course and distance success, and he has chased home some very decent types since including the Derby and 2000 Guineas winner. Dropping back down to his ideal distance, expect HOLLOWAY BOY to be smuggled up from way back and come flashing home and at a huge price.
He’s a top-rated sprinter in Hong Kong and that is a particularly tough ballpark. From the ratings perspective and with the unstoppable jockey Ryan Moore up on top, they could well take the prize back home. WELLINGTON has clocked some very fast times.
It’s great to see the old boy back and the hope is he’s fit and ready to go from 336 days away from the track. PYLEDRIVER loves this course and distance and while obviously Hukum has a fitness edge, the ratings tell you there is very little between them. He rates as the value play.
One from either side of the track and both of the runners have very solid form at this particular venue. FRESH looked to have a nice pipe opener over a furlong longer last time and was allowed to come home without being put under maximum pressure. He’s been prepped for this.
TABDEED has never quite fulfilled his potential for this outfit, yet he looks on a realistic mark and he’s drawn up in the high numbers. There is no doubting his ability.
We will need a bit of luck for the first selection ZIRYAB to get in. There’s every chance of one of these not making the lineup. This could be Frankie Dettori‘s final ride at the meeting, and he looks to have got in on a very lenient looking 88.
The other Gosden runner OBLELIX rates a major each-way play as he has been gelded, and also is stepping up in distance now switched back onto the turf.
The last time we saw him on the level, RUN FOR OSCAR was an easy winner of the Cesarewitch at Newmarket. He wasn’t stopping at the finish, and this extreme distance will bring his unlimited stamina into play. It’s no surprise that they have booked former jump jockey Jim Crowley to do the steering over the marathon.
