13.30 – HIGH FIBRE
13:30 – HIGH FIBRE achieved a useful level of form in six starts for Ralph Beckett, producing his best effort when last seen filling the runner-up spot (beaten just a nose) at Newmarket in April 2022. He’s joined Harry Fry and had a gelding operation during his subsequent absence, so it’s just a question of how much ability he retains having clearly had a few issues. In a wide-open heat, he could be worth a chance to pick up where he left off when last seen from a 4 lb higher mark, with the step up to a mile and a half unlikely to pose him any problems.
14:05 – TIMELESS MELODY
14:05 – TIMELESS MELODY looked a useful prospect when making a winning debut for William Haggas (formerly trained by Charlie Appleby) at Leicester last month, ultimately landing the spoils by a length and a quarter having stayed on to lead in the final 50 yards. The first two pulled well clear of the rest and Timeless Melody remains one to keep on the right side now making the switch to handicaps. She is certainly capable of better now stepping back up to a mile and a BHA mark of 80 looks a fair starting point to life in this sphere, too.

14:40 – BARADAR
BARADAR looked as good as ever after five months off when finishing third in the Lincoln at Doncaster last time, travelling smoothly into contention before seeming to get tired close home. Still beaten only three lengths, he certainly showed enough to suggest he is on a good mark and today’s conditions will be right up his street, dropping back to seven furlongs on soft ground. He is also fitted with a first-time tongue strap and that could give him the extra edge he needs to win the big prize he’s long promised.
15:10 – OCEAN RUNNER
OCEAN RUNNER is bred to be a precocious sort (by Blue Point and out of a mare who won at six furlongs at two) and it would seem that he showed up nicely at the breeze-ups last month having cost his connections 625,000 guineas. In a field made up mostly of newcomers, Ocean Runner has lots to recommend him on paper and gets the vote to make a successful debut for Charlie Appleby, who won this race 12 months ago with the smart Noble Style.
15:45 – WESTERTON
WESTERTON ran another solid race when filling the runner-up spot on his handicap debut at Doncaster a couple of weeks ago, ultimately proving no match for the winner (beaten five lengths) but sticking to his task well to pull clear of the rest. That was his first outing for seven months (gelded in the interim) and he is entitled to strip fitter with the run under his belt. Still relatively unexposed after just four starts, he is very much the type to go improving and should be winning races from this sort of mark sooner rather than later.
16:20 – CHIPS AND RICE
CHIPS AND RICE returned from six months off with a narrow success at Lingfield a few weeks ago, doing her best work in the final furlong to get the verdict by a neck. That was also her first start for James Fanshawe (formerly trained by Chris Wall) and her new trainer is very adept when it comes to gradually eking out more improvement from his horses. That suggests Chips And Rice could still be one step ahead of the handicapper from a 2 lb higher mark and another big run seems assured in her follow-up bid.
16:55 – COOPERATION
COOPERATION confirmed the promise of his reappearance with a determined victory at Thirsk last week, benefiting from the strong pace as he finished well from a long way back to land the spoils by a length and a quarter. This will be tougher following a 4 lb rise in the weights, but he acts well on heavy going and the booking of Andrea Atzeni catches the eye, so he could be worth siding with to complete a quickfire double in the finale.
