Horse Racing tips: Ruby Walsh’s sweet Sunday selections at Newmarket

Ruby's in no doubt that Tahiyra will win Sunday's 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket.

Newmarket 13:50 – Firstman
Newmarket 14:25 – Trust the Stars
Newmarket 15:00 – Life In Motion
Newmarket 15:40 – Tahiyra

Newmarket 13:50 – Firstman

Irish trainer Tony Martin saddles Firstman in this 1m 6f contest and I’m not going to oppose him with William Buick booked to ride. He was beaten in a maiden hurdle at Leopardstown in March but has some decent form on the Flat before then.

Newmarket 14:25 – Trust the Stars

The 10f Pretty Polly Stakes is tough to call but there may be more to come from Ralph Beckett’s Trust the Stars who won on her debut and sole start last season at this venue over a mile. Beckett has plenty of decent filly’s in his yard and it’s maybe notable that he has chosen her for this task.

 

Newmarket 15:00 – Life in Motion

I’m a huge Andre Fabre fan – especially when he travels his horses over from France. He saddle two runners in the Group 2 Dahlia Stakes. Life in Motion and Hidden Dimples and the former has already beaten the latter so I’ll opt for Life In Motion who is chasing her fourth win on the bounce having won last month on soft ground at Longchamp on her seasonal debut.

Newmarket 15:40 – Tahiyra

The 1,000 Guineas and the Irish have two of the fancied runners. Tahiyra is unbeaten and was spectacular in the Moyglare Stud Stakes on slower ground.

Personally, I think she’s a jet.

The noise around Dermot Weld’s stable form is a little overdone and he wasn’t in much better form when she put in that performance at the Curragh last season. She’s my nap of the weekend.
