13:50 – Majestic Pride

There are a host of promising three-year-olds in this conditions event but the eye is drawn to the Charlie Appleby-trained pair of MAJESTIC PRIDE and City of Kings. Preference is for the former, who has an excellent pedigree – he is a half-brother to top-class Farrh – and built on the promise of his debut when opening his account at Chelmsford in November. He was sent off at prohibitive odds but still looked very green, leaving the impression he has plenty more to offer, and he is potentially smart. The same can be said for City of Kings, whose Ascot form last time out has been boosted since.

14:25 – Rebel Territory

REBEL TERRITORY made a winning reappearance in a useful handicap at Sandown last season and there was plenty to like about the manner of that victory. He travelled well and knuckled down well to seal the deal in the closing stages and, while he didn’t progress as expected afterwards, he travelled well for a long way in a handicap over a mile at this course on his final start. The drop in trip to seven furlongs looks a good move on that evidence and, given he goes well fresh, he looks the one to side with. New Kingdom was better than ever when successful at Meydan and is sure to be popular for leading connections.

15:00 – Outbreak

OUTBREAK was promising as a juvenile but missed the majority of his three-year-old season. However, following a gelding operation, he has been in good form on the all-weather of late, building on his first run for 11 months when resuming winning ways at Lingfield in February. That form looks solid for the grade and Outbreak hasn’t been disgraced since, run down only late on over a mile and a quarter last time. The return to a mile will be no problem and, provided he handles the forecast easier ground, he seems sure to launch another bold bid. Recent Doncaster winner Bucephalus and Ashky are among the big dangers.

15:35 – Ottoman Fleet

Charlie Appleby won the Earl of Sefton Stakes 12 months ago and OTTOMAN FLEET looks an ideal type to make it two in a row. Both of his wins have come over a mile and a quarter at this track, both in listed company, and he relished soft ground conditions when bolting up on his final start last season. He hasn’t been disgraced in three starts at Meydan so far this year, finishing placed in pattern company each time, and he makes plenty of appeal back at this venue for a yard that enjoyed an excellent time of it here last season. Poker Face takes a step up in class but this unbeaten gelding looked an exciting prospect last term and could prove the chief threat.

16:10 – Covey

COVEY has an attractive pedigree and he shaped with plenty of promise on his debut at Southwell a couple of weeks ago, receiving a bump around two furlongs out but making the well-regarded favourite pull out all of the stops in the closing stages. He wasn’t subjected to a hard ride at all and is sure to reap the benefits of that initial experience now making his turf debut. Palamon is worth another chance to confirm debut promise and rates the main threat ahead of Molaqab, who shaped better than the bare result at Doncaster first-time out in November.

16:45 – Cuban Thunder

The betting will likely reveal more with seven of these making their debut but it may be worth chancing CUBAN THUNDER to make a winning start. He was a 150,000 guineas purchase and is bred to be useful, while he also represents a yard that have made a very positive start with their juveniles. Blue Storm and Hackman are other very likely types on paper, while Yorkshire Terrier has already won but has a penalty to carry.

17:20 – Lihou

LIHOU has been in top form on the all-weather this year, winning three of his four starts and, just as effective on turf, representing a yard who continue among the winners, he is taken to continue the good work. Ey Up It’s Maggie has returned in fine fettle and heads the dangers with Billy Loughnane back in the saddle, while Al Barez lacks match practice but is much the least exposed in the line-up and would very much enter the reckoning if the betting speaks in his favour.
