Newmarket 13:50 – CITY OF KINGS

Aintree might be over, but the Flat is about to kick into gear for three days on ITV Racing at Newmarket starting here with a conditions race over 7f. Majestic Pride is 66-1 for the 2000 Guineas and might well win for Charlie Appleby and William Buick on board. However, stable companion CITY OF KINGS might not be a terrible second string and I’ll risk the son of Kingman who, of course, his rider James Doyle used to ride. My hope was slowly away on debut at Sandown before running on through beaten horses and then was too free when making all at Ascot at short odds. He will have learnt plenty and I suspect is no mug.

Newmarket 14:25 – FINAL WATCH (each-way)

Now a handicap over 7f. New Kingdom is obvious but high in the weights now. I’ll have a few quid each-way on FINAL WATCH for William Stone and Andrea Atzeni. The conditions should be ideal for my hope who won well at Ascot last season over this trip on good ground. He disappointed in two starts after that and was never travelling on both occasions. Hopefully freshened up he might surprise a few here.

Newmarket 15:00 – ASHKY (each-way)

Another handicap but this time over 1m. ASHKY was improving for Roger and Harry Charlton when last seen and hopefully can carry on the good work if ready for this. The ground is an unknown, but he finished up third at Newmarket on good ground over this trip when just edging right when he needed to keep straight. Six out of his eight starts have come at this course and he seems to love it. An each-way chance.

Newmarket 15:35 – REACH FOR THE MOON (each-way)

Class stuff with the Group 3 Earl of Sefton for older horses over 1m1f. Poker Face could be anything, but needs to improve. There’s no doubt REACH FOR THE MOON is the fascinating runner, now having been gelded and being handed blinkers for the first time. That’s not like the John and Thady Gosden team, so they obviously feel there is a kick there, and we saw that in defeat last term. However, it still remains this horse once had huge potential and was being considered for the Derby. His second to My Prospero at Sandown was a fine performance with the benefit of hindsight and it will be interesting to see what he can do. Maybe back each-way.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
