Timeform’s Southwell Tips

17:00 – Cinnodin
17:30 – Ward Castle
18:00 – Equiami
18:30 – Mystical Pearl
19:00 – Spirit Of Bowland
19:30 – Mahboohah
20:00 – Mojeyrr
20:30 – Cloud Queen

17:00 – Cinnodin

CINNODIN proved a different proposition after a break, a gelding operation and a step up in trip when opening his account on handicap debut over a mile and a half at Wolverhampton at the end of February and he looks a horse to remain positive about. He was doing all of his best work at the finish on that occasion, promising to relish this even sterner test of stamina, and he can follow up from a 3 lb higher mark. Sexy Rexy should be suited by this longer distance, too, and can pose the biggest threat to the selection.

17:30 – Ward Castle

WARD CASTLE proved better than ever when capitalising on a falling mark over course and distance 10 days ago, proving half a length too strong for the reopposing Haven Lady. He justified good support in the process, still having plenty of work to do entering the straight, but making rapid headway and he was comfortably on top at the line. Ward Castle escapes a penalty for that success, and his rider can now claim his full allowance, so he has strong claims of confirming that form. The pair look the two to focus on in this contest, though Billy Bathgate has been going through a good spell of late and completes the shortlist.

18:00 – Equiami

EQUIAMI showed improved form after six months off and a gelding operation when finishing third over seven furlongs at Lingfield 11 days ago, but he was just unable to reel in a pair who were ridden more prominently than him. That was a very encouraging return to action, though, and he shapes like he could have even more to offer now moving up to a mile. Another bold bid is expected now racing from the same mark. H Key Lails got off the mark last time and is feared most, ahead of Deep Spirit.

18:30 – Mystic Pearl

MYSTIC PEARL had shown promise on her first two starts at Newmarket and Newbury before opening her account over seven furlongs at Thirsk in September last year where she was well suited by the step up in trip. She ran a solid race on her handicap debut back at Newmarket when last seen in October, where she was beaten only by a couple of progressive Godolphin colts. Mystic Pearl should have no problem moving up to a mile on her return to action and she strikes as one who can take another step forward this season. She’s taken to see off the challenge of Irish raider My Minervina, while Gareeb could fare best of the handicap debutantes.

19:00 – Spirit Of Bowland

SPIRIT OF BOWLAND confirmed the promise he’d shown from basement marks last year when opening his account over seven furlongs at Newcastle two weeks ago and, despite a tricky draw, he could well be up to building on that given he remains relatively low-mileage compared to most of these. Hostelry is feared, with Non Mollare and Fast Danseuse others to consider, though Egoiste requires a market check back from an absence and following a wind operation.

19:30 – Mahboobah

MAHBOOBAH and Banquo are both starting out for new stables on just their third career outing, so both could improve, though preference for the former, who cost 100,000 guineas at the breeze-ups, and shaped with plenty of promise on debut at Yarmouth last year. She failed to build on that when last seen, but her debut form very much stands out in this field, and she has joined a yard who are very adept with new recruits.

20:00 – Mojeyrr

This may turn out to be a stronger race than the first division but it looks an excellent opportunity for MOJEYRR to open his account. He is bred to be useful and showed plenty to work on when third on debut at Kempton 16 days ago, quickening into contention and beaten only by a couple with previous experience. He seems sure to build on that effort now and should take plenty of beating.

Stormy Denise showed definite promise on her Chelmsford debut and could be the one to chase the selection home.

20:30 – Cloud Queen

CLOUD QUEEN is the sole three-year-old in the line-up and she can take advantage of the weight she receives from her rivals. She ran her best race to date on her handicap debut at Lingfield last time, seeming well suited by a step up to seven furlongs but leaving the impression she would come on for the run. There should be more to come from her and she makes most appeal, ahead of Toyboy and Hit Mac.
