13:50 – Torito

There were plenty of positives to take from TORITO‘s debut defeat at Newbury and a Derby entry bodes well. Exoplanet is the other one with Group-race entries and Roger Varian believes he failed to do himself justice when highly tried on his final run last season. Overactive should also be open to significant progress as a 3yo.

14:20 – Latin Verse

A typically trappy early-season 3yo handicap. LATIN VERSE does at least have the benefit of a recent run and that was probably a fair maiden that he won at Lingfield. Bohemian Breeze returns with his yard going well and he looks just the type to pay his way now sent into handicaps. Not that any of the six can be dismissed with complete confidence.

14:50 – Fix You (NAP)

The filly FIX YOU (NAP) emerged as the best horse at the weights when narrowly denied on her AW reappearance and this return to soft ground looks a big positive. Desperate Hero had a very solid first season and, although unraced on this sort of ground, his sire was very capable in the mud. The now-hooded Open Market is probably on a good mark if giving herself a chance by settling better.

15:25 – McCauleys Tavern

Preference is for McCAULEYS TAVERN, who coped well with testing ground when running to a useful level last season in Ireland, and the market drift prior to his excellent return at Kempton would suggest that the run was needed. Eternal Class could yet fulfil the promise of her debut effort.

15:55 – Trueshan

You can set your clock by TRUESHAN when he gets these conditions and Alan King’s star should repeat last year’s success. Mojo Star could be short of peak fitness on his first sighting since going close in the Ascot Gold Cup last June, but he’s entitled to make a race of it on these favourable terms. Tashkhan has a bit to find with the form principals but not a lot, and he too can make his presence felt.

16:25 – Eurythmical

This is far from straightforward. Perhaps EURYTHMICAL can benefit from cheekpieces after running below expectations on her handicap debut. Ravigill has C&D form on soft ground and that closing third was her best run to date. On The Pulse had a good first season and yet still looks feasibly handicapped.

16:55 – More Diamonds

It might be worth chancing MORE DIAMONDS on her first run for James Ferguson and belatedly returning to genuine soft ground for the first time since finishing third in a 2yo novice at Newmarket. Mabre has been in good form on the AW – unlucky last time – and returning to these conditions won’t faze him.
