Catterick betting tips:

14:40 – Shines Ambition
15:15 – Mister Camancho
15:48 – Divine Libra
16:18 – Metabolt
16:48 – Scottish Wind
17:20 – Shot

14:10 – Freedom Flyer

FREEDOM FLYER produced his best effort for a while to regain the winning thread at Thirsk last week, hitting the front over a furlong out and quickly drawing clear from there to win by two and a half lengths in emphatic fashion. The manner of that win suggests he is potentially well treated here under a 5 lb penalty, particularly with a good-value claimer taking over in the saddle. The fine form of the Ruth Carr yard (20% strike rate in 2023) also gives cause for plenty of optimism.

14:40 – Shines Ambition

SHINES AMBITION looked in need of the run when returning from five months off at Southwell last time, leading briefly two furlongs out before appearing to get tired. He is likely to strip fitter today and it could be a good chance for him to finally get off the mark on his eleventh start. He was placed several times as a two-year-old and a British Horseracing Authority (BHA) mark of 69 is certainly workable judged on the pick of those efforts.

15:15 – Mister Camacho

MISTER CAMACHO ran right up to his best when finishing a close-up third on his reappearance at Doncaster 10 days ago, doing his best work late on to pass the post just half a length behind the winner. He can line up from the same mark today and the way he shaped on Town Moor suggests the return to further will be in his favour. The rain-softened ground won’t be an issue, either, and he gets the vote to belatedly open his account.

15:48 – Divine Libra

DIVINE LIBRA achieved a fairly useful level of form in two starts as a two-year-old, producing his best effort when filling the runner-up spot on his debut at Kempton in October. That form sets the standard here on Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings and it’s unlikely that he’s reached his ceiling just yet given his unexposed profile. A couple of interesting newcomers feature among the opposition, but Divine Libra rates a solid selection to get off the mark at the third attempt.

16:18 – Metabolt

METABOLT proved a disappointment when last seen finishing down the field at Nottingham in October, but the heavy ground there probably worked against him. He is perhaps better judged on the form he showed when previously finishing fourth on his handicap debut at Chester, doing well to be beaten only two and a half lengths having met plenty of trouble. He is clearly on a good mark and could be worth a chance to resume his progress on his return to action.

16:48 – Scottish Wind

SCOTTISH WIND showed fair form in three starts on the Flat last year and it will be interesting to see what he can do now making the switch to handicaps. A BHA mark of 67 certainly looks a fair starting point to life in this sphere and he won’t lack for fitness having run three times over hurdles during the winter. With the Lucinda Russell yard in rude health (five winners from last 19 runners), Scottish Wind isn’t one to underestimate in a wide-open heat.

17:20 – Shot

SHOT proved better than ever when making a winning debut for the Jack Jones yard (formerly trained by Tom Ward) at Lingfield a couple of weeks ago, making all to land the spoils by a length and a quarter. She enjoyed the run of the race on that occasion, but it’s hard to argue that she wasn’t full value for a 4lb rise in the weights. Jonny Peate, who is good value for his 5lb claim, also takes over in the saddle today, so it’s easy to make the case for Shot in her follow-up bid.
