13:35 – Star Angel
The very lightly raced 4yo STAR ANGEL brings potential to this handicap debut and is taken to make it 2-2 since joining George Boughey. Last year’s third Captain Haddock ended last season in good form and may be the chief threat ahead of Torcello and Clansman.
14:10 – Cloudbreaker
The consistent Mighty River has to make the shortlist and there may still be more to come from Demilion now he is switched to turf, but preference is for CLOUDBREAKER whose fourth in an above-average Wolverhampton novice in February should have set her up nicely for this and whose stable won this race last year. There’s The Door and Kadovar look best of the rest, having run well on soft ground.
14:45 – Theoryofeverything
Overrule (second choice) won well over 7f on heavy ground last November, while Striking Star’s debut win was enough to give him favouritism in a Group 3 next time, albeit with that race resulting in a flop, since which he has been gelded. Palamon also figures in calculations, because of his trainer’s three wins in the last five runnings of this race. However, it’s easy to be drawn to the Gosden 325,000-guinea newcomer THEORYOFEVERYTHING whose sire is Frankel and dam is Persuasive, winner over 1m on soft in the 2017 Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
15:20 – Chairmanoftheboard
A few of the pacey ones are drawn high but CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD is not too far away and has a big run in him with his new trainer having been quick out of the blocks this year. Blind Beggar is interesting on his soft-ground form in Ireland, and on what he’s been doing on the AW for his new connections, but the lowest draw of all is a worry. Magical Spirit has a good record here and is also considered, although stablemate Aleezdancer is unexposed under the conditions and should have more to offer this year. Gisburn, who ran so well at York in the autumn, and last year’s winner Bernardo O’Reilly also have form claims.

15:55 – Sir Rumi
The Richard Hannon-trained SIR RUMI (nap) ran well here on both his first and final runs last season and this consistent sort is taken to make a winning return. The very lightly raced Flyin’ Solo was a good second on his sole start last season and is feared most, while Baryshnikov and First Officer are others to consider.
16:30 – Little Boy Blue
Bill Turner has enjoyed early-season success at Doncaster a few times and his veteran, LITTLE BOY BLUE, won’t mind what the weather does and has a very solid record when fresh. He gets the vote ahead of Mohi, who turned things around with a good AW run last month and is still well handicapped. David O’Meara’s two runners, Ascot Adventure and Cold Stare, are also of interest and their relative strength in the betting may provide some clues.
17:05 – Burj Malinka
Paul Midgley has a strong hand in this and Majeski Man, Prospect and Van Gerwen, who are three of his four runners, have something to recommend them. However, preference is for BURJ MALINKA who should relish the likely soft conditions and has gone well fresh in the past. Ballyare and High Opinion also make the shortlist.
17:40 – Ey Up Its Maggie
As in the first division Paul Midgley fields four and again three of them, in Glory Fighter, Indian Sounds and Hey Mr, are worth considering. Refuge is another for the shortlist as he goes on any ground and has gone well fresh in the past, but it may be worth taking a chance with EY UP IT’S MAGGIE who has dropped 8lb below her last winning mark, goes well on soft ground and drops into a Class 5 handicap for the first time.
