Old Chums has won as a two-year-old over 6f-plus and he can cope with soft conditions. I just feel this could turn into a bit of a slog and I’m just tempted by his pedigree.
Phantom Flight looked a bit of a handful last year and blotted his copybook at Ayr when playing up in the stalls. Prior to that, he was very impressive when winning at York and he looks a horse to follow. He could be better with the winter on his back, so he gets the vote.
This is another race that could come down to who can handle the conditions as the ground will be very soft. The lack of a recent run may not be ideal for some of the runners and that is why I have landed on Harswell Duke. He has won on soft over further than this 1m trip and he’s had a recent run. Looks competitively handicapped on the best of his form.
Million Thanks was a little unlucky when narrowly finishing second at the track last time out but this should be perfect for him with Richard Kingscote in the saddle.
I love a horse who wears his heart on his sleeve and Commanche Falls is definitely just that. He is really game and never runs a bad race. He is proven on soft ground and he has a good record when fresh.
William Haggas has a couple in here but I like the chances of the Cieren Fallon-ridden Montassib. He ran a good race at Haydock behind Wanees, his best run was on very soft ground at Goodwood last May when winning comfortably. The conditions are perfect for him and he has to be on the shortlist.

Aztec Empire is proven at the track and was a good winner last time over the 2m trip. He’s up 6lbs for that win in February and can win once again.
