Masters Legacy was a useful hurdler and he made a successful start over fences over this course and distance in November, looking well suited by the step up in trip to three miles. He failed to match that form when a distant last of three over course and distance on his next outing, but he possibly found the run coming too soon just ten days after his successful chasing debut and, having been freshened up and given a wind operation, he is worth another chance.
14:10 – Midnight Callisto
Midnight Callisto was below her best in a two-and-a-half mile handicap hurdle at Southwell on her penultimate start but gave a better account of herself back over two miles at that venue last time. Midnight Callisto, who was fitted with blinkers for the first time in addition to her usual tongue tie, was beaten only three lengths in fourth and this looks like an easier opportunity. She won over this course and distance last season.
14:40 – Buckhorn Rocco
Bumper winner Buckhorn Rocco made a promising start over hurdles when runner-up here on New Year’s Day and wasn’t far below that level when fourth at Chepstow a few weeks ago. He was just found wanting for pace on that occasion but will be suited by this slight step up in trip and looks to have been found a very good opportunity here.
15:15 – Raddon Top
Raddon Top completed a hat-trick in handicap hurdles here last year and he went close on his reappearance at this venue in November, going down fighting against an unexposed one, pulling well clear of the third. Raddon Top added to his good record at this venue when finishing an encouraging third on his chasing debut in a handicap on New Year’s Day and he built on that promise to score here nine days later, forging clear to register a clear-cut success. Raddon Top, a multiple winning pointer earlier in his career, was disappointing at Chepstow last time but his overall profile is a largely positive one and he can get back on the right track at a course where he goes well.
Prince Rhinegold showed a bit of promise when sixth on his bumper debut here in April and he also offered something to work with on his hurdling debut here in November before he departed at the final flight. He was disappointing at Wincanton last time but this is a weak novices’ hurdle and he could be worth another chance to build on earlier encouragement.
16:17 – Sporting Ace
Bumper winner Sporting Ace made a successful start over hurdles at Warwick in May and has run well in defeat since, finishing placed on his four subsequent starts, including when runner-up over course and distance a few weeks ago. Sporting Ace was unable to justify strong support on that occasion but he gave a good account of himself and still looks fairly treated after edging up 2 lb in the weights.
16:50 – Hour Star
Hour Star is a brother to a bumper winner and the dam also won a bumper, so he has a bit to recommend him starting out in a thin contest in which the only two with experience haven’t shown a lot. He gets the verdict over fellow newcomer All Guns Blazing.
