DABANA finished just ahead of Relevant Range when meeting at Cork last April with Mark Fahey’s runner finishing just ahead on that occasion in a race won by Aidan O’Brien’s Toy. Both have raced several times since and come here with similar profiles and should fight out the finish in this 1-mile maiden.
Dabana has the fitness edge and track experience having recently finished a staying on third over course and distance with Jack Kearney once again in the saddle with that effort a fine performance considering she was off the track since last June. The daughter of Iffraaj should be spot on for that run and remember she once finished ahead of subsequent Irish Oaks winner Magical Lagoon in a Naas maiden, so she’s got the ability and deserves to finally break her maiden tag.
16:00 Dundalk – Benz (EW)
A competitive handicap with plenty of horses on the shortlist including the inform Celtic Revival who dug deep to win over course and distance for Eddie Lynam and James Ryan last month, with the son of Sea The Stars gone up 6Ibs on official ratings for that narrow victory. Munfallet is an interesting runner with Denis Coakley’s old-boy improving in recent starts around here with the step-up in trip looking a positive following his fourth-place finish to French Company last month (Pro Bono was second).
However, BENZ gets my vote off an official rating of 49 with Leigh Roche booked to ride for Gordon Elliott on return to the level having raced solely over hurdles since last September. His run when fifth at Bellewstown last June has worked out well with Final Orders improving rapaidly over rules for Gavin Cromwell with stablemate Britzka another who has won several subsequent races over jumps. The son of Rock Of Gibraltar should appreciate this trip and with an inside draw looking a positive for a horse that likes to be ridden handy, I’m hopefully he’ll be there or there abouts in what looks a trappy affair.

17:10 Dundalk – Bowerman
Ado McGuinness said “form is temporary, and class is permanent” following the latest win from solid servant BOWERMAN when scoring here in good fashion earlier this month, and he can strike again in this closing extended 1-mile 2-furlong handicap. The son of Dutch Art got the better of a solid horse in the shape of Firstman on that occasion, having travelled extremely well from off the pace and coming nicely clearly of the cashing pack.
He can be giving an equally patience ride by Ronan Whelan to hopefully defy a 6Ib rise in the ratings with Dalvey (third in opposition the last day) and No Trouble looking two of his biggest dangers. Billy Lee stays on Dalvey for James McAuley who drops a pound to 83, while John McConnell’s No Trouble is back in handicap company following his staying on second in a claimer here in mid-December.
