13:30 – Hermino Aa

HERMINO AA made an encouraging start to his career when runner-up in an Ascot bumper in November and he again showed plenty of ability when third on his hurdling debut at Doncaster last month. He is entitled to progress for that experience and can get off the mark. Goodwin Racing finished third in a strong bumper at Kempton in March 2021 and he ran well to finish fourth in a bumper here last month on his return from a lengthy layoff, so he could provide the chief threat on his hurdling debut.

14:05 – Doyannie

DOYANNIE was well backed on her first start for Anthony Honeyball at Ffos Las in November (she had undergone a breathing operation beforehand) but she proved disappointing and finished down the field. She has been eased 3 lb, though, and has been found a weak-looking event, so she could be worth another chance as she’s on a decent mark based on the pick of her efforts for previous trainer Jack Barber.

14:40 – Poncho

PONCHO was placed on both outings in bumpers and he went like the best horse at the weights when runner-up on his hurdling debut at Wincanton earlier this month, a significant error at the second-last halting his challenge. He looked a bit ungainly under pressure, carrying his head awkwardly, but it could be worth giving him the benefit of the doubt for now, and he has the ability to land this novice hurdle. Trevor’s Lad, who finished a promising third on his hurdling debut at Fontwell in November, is the obvious danger.

15:15 – Sirobbie

SIROBBIE didn’t offer much on his first outing for Ian Williams and he didn’t get far before falling on his next outing at Doncaster, but he returned to form when runner-up at Ludlow last time, going down by just three-quarters of a length. A 3 lb rise in the weights for that effort is fair enough – he was 14 lengths clear of the third – and it’s possible his new trainer could eke out a bit more, mindful that Sirobbie has struck off a higher mark in the past.

15:50 – Ballymagroarty Boy

BALLYMAGROARTY BOY is an infrequent winner – he has won only one of his 23 starts – but he arrives here in good form having finished placed in a couple of conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdles the last twice. He’s able to run off a 4 lb lower mark here on his switch back to chasing and that gives him an obvious chance. Blinkers are refitted in a bid to further sharpen him up (he was a good second over hurdles at Warwick a couple of seasons ago when last in headgear).

16:24 – Executive Pool

EXECUTIVE POOL failed to meet expectations when beaten a long way in third on his handicap hurdle debut at Lingfield last month, but he shaped much better than the bare result and is worth another chance. Executive Pool, a middle-distance performer on the Flat, found a strongly-run race on heavy ground providing too stern a test at Lingfield, but he should appreciate there being less emphasis on stamina here. The blinkers, which were left off last time, are refitted here and he can take advantage of a fair-looking mark.
