15:55 – Effernock Fizz

An apprentice race that starts the New Year at Dundalk over 1m 4f where for the next three weeks the jockeys who have not ridden more than 20 winners at this venue in 2022 get their chance to shine. The top weight Whatharm is dropping down the rating but is maybe best watched as is Mads Black Eights.

One who looks a standout though since switching to Cian Collins is Effernock Fizz. She won the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las in October off a jumps rating of 128 and was narrowly beaten at Cheltenham the same month. She should have plenty of upside off her all weather Flat rating of 69 considering her Flat Turf rating is 75 and looks the one to concentrate on.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

16:30 – Rockview Consort

A 1m 2f maiden where the market principles meet again after Rockview Consort finished just ahead of Selador in a maiden here in November. Selador is a tricky customer to catch right and can give races away at times while Rockview Consort probably should have won last time out and is the more consistent of the two. She and can up-hold the form from November and is a pretty confident selection.

17:00 – Dappled Light

A 7f handicap where the consistent Pub Talk heads the weights. Monophonic has her first run in a handicap while Doctor Grace could be very interesting off a mark of 54 and Johnny Murtagh saddle Malacanne who showed glimpses of form last season. One that stands out to me though is John Murphy’s Dappled Light near the foot of the weights. He was third on handicap and polytrack debut nine days ago over a mile and was only getting the hang of things late on. He’ll have to be a little sharper now dropping down to 7f but has a major chance.

17:30 – Make The Switch

Vee Dancer could be the interesting one in the market and the application of cash will speak volumes for his chance. Conor Stone-Walsh claims 10lbs and he’s a very good jockey from the pony racing circuit. A couple of National Hunt types will line up including Well Funded and Make The Switch.

The latter could be the value here for the John McConnell yard who giving Well Funded 28lb when a little under two lengths behind him when the former was second Chutzpah at this venue over two miles at the end of November. Make the Switch only concedes 16lb now including Jack Enright’s 10lb aboard Well Funded.

18:00 – Twentynine Palms

A 1m Flat maiden where the market could prove the best guide. Ger Lyons’ Hypnotise Me could be interesting as could Joseph O’Brien’s Vittoria Colanna who shaped with promise when well backed on debut. Stablemate Twentynine Palms ran on well on her debut and should improve and could be hard to beat.

18:30 – News At Ten

Another maiden over a mile where Michael O’Callaghan’s News At Ten sets a very good standard on his grass runs at the Curagh and Gowran Park. He’s been gelded since then and if he runs anywhere near that level of form against horses who are now rated in the 100s he should go very close now. Flagstaff Garden is really well bred and was withdrawn from the Horses In Training sale and makes his debut for Joseph O’Brien now.

19:00 – Qaabil

A mile handicap now where a lot of these are out of form. Hurricane Helen has decent form behind Malaysian and has a chance despite top weight but Kudbegood was a handicap winner here in November and has a decent record fresh. However, Qaabil pulled off a big gamble when winning at Gowran Park in late August when making all that day. Has run ok on the all weather since then and has Nathan Crosse aboard tonight and is just 1lb higher than that winning start at Gowran Park.

19:30 – Khattaat

Miracles in May hasn’t run since the end of October and should be watched as there’s races to be won at this venue with him. Paul Flynn has been in decent form and Khattaat has been an eye-catcher a couple of times and off a mark of 58 can be competitive.
