Matt Chapman Tips for Friday on ITV

- 13:50 Cheltenham – Gazette Bourgeoise
- 14:25 Cheltenham – Captain Cattistock
- 15:00 Cheltenham Le Patron (each-way)

13:30 Bangor – GOLDEN SOVEREIGN (each-way)
Weather permitting, ITV Friday gets under way at Bangor with a handicap chase over 3m. Only the Bold and Fuji Flight are obvious contenders as both stay and should be in good form. However, provided eight horses go to post I’m happy to chance GOLDEN SOVEREIGN each-way for the master trainer Philip Hobbs and Michael Nolan. My lightly raced hope has had jumping issues but got everything together when last seen and if the progression continues on seasonal debut he looks over priced.

13:50 Cheltenham – GAZETTE BOURGEOISE (each-way)
ITV’s main action Friday is at Cheltenham including this mares’ handicap chase over an extended 2m4f. A wide open event. GAZETTE BOURGEOISE stays further than this and might be able to plod on into a place at the very least. Trained by Ben Case, my selection is ridden by Bryan Carver and has been dropped a few pounds in the handicap. Hopefully she can stay in touch and run on strongly.
14:25 Cheltenham – CAPTAIN CATTISTOCK
This is a handicap chase over 3m2f. Another wide open affair. CAPTAIN CATTISTOCK is interesting for Fergal O’Brien under Liam Harrison who takes off a useful 3lb. My selection used to be trained by Paul Nicholls and has been higher in the handicap in his time. He stays this distance well and has two decent runs at this track this term including a win off 5lb lower a couple of runs back.

15:00 Cheltenham – LE PATRON (each-way)
The Cross Country chase is early on the card so now we get a handicap hurdle over 2m1f. Not a race of typical Cheltenham quality, although both Mullenbeg and Punctuation come here in top form. I’m interested in French import LE PATRON who might be well in off 116. It’s hard to judge the French efforts but he clearly jumps and stays this distance strongly. An each-way chance for Jamie and Gary Moore.

15:35 Cheltenham – DUSART
Finally a handicap hurdle over 3m. Easy to side with classy chaser DUSART here for Nicky Henderson and Nico de Boinville. The Brown Advisory fifth is a pretty classy horse and while he’s up to a rating of 150 here, I would have thought he’ll just be too classy if ready for this test..
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
