WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

12:25 – Cornicello

There’s a good chance Baliyad will get his own way out in front here, in which case the other jockeys need to be alert as the front-runner is handily weighted on best form. However, the two to focus on could be Mind Hunter, who will come on for the comeback run at Ffos Las, and CORNICELLO, with preference for the latter. He’s in good form, having backed up a Plumpton novices’ handicap win with a solid second at Hereford earlier in the month and, although nudged up a couple of pounds since, the selection has a distinct class edge over these rivals.

12:55 – Cap du Mathan

An interesting little contest in which CAP DU MATHAN is taken to add his name to the list of recent winners for champion trainer Paul Nicholls and stable jockey Harry Cobden. The seven-year-old shaped like the run was needed at Chepstow last month (raced freely) and the first experience of jumping fences in public won’t be lost on him either. Stormin Crossgales could really take to this discipline and put up a fight but the main threat may come from a well-treated Stepney Causeway on his debut for the in-form Milton Harris yard.

13:30 – Last Royal

Thomas Mor will be popular again having been well backed ahead of his maiden hurdle win first time out at Worcester last month, but LAST ROYAL has the strongest form on offer thanks to a novice success here in March and, providing he’s fully fit on his seasonal return, the seven-year-old can successfully concede the weight. Twin Power is another with potential and has undergone wind surgery since last seen during his two-race bumper campaign.

14:05 – Rosy Redrum

Not the strongest maiden hurdle for the track and ROSY REDRUM looks up to making a winning debut in this sphere, having shown good form in bumpers including a course success first time out in January. Ebonello hails from another in-form yard and has fitness on her side too after winning a Sedgefield bumper last month, though she didn’t have to improve much (if at all) to justify favouritism on that occasion. Tintern Abbey has jumped hurdles in public already and certainly wasn’t disgraced when third at Ludlow a couple of weeks ago.

Wincanton Races October 15, 2020

14:40 – Don Alvaro

Paul Nicholls’ DON ALVARO has gone up the thick end of a stone (12 lb) following his wide-margin course-and-distance success on good to firm going here earlier in the month but he looks on a steep upward curve now and, with rain around, it’s worth highlighting he also scored on soft in a handicap hurdle at Taunton back in March. Fellow last-time-out winner Forget You Not may put up most resistance, though the Exeter form is just ordinary and a subsequent 4 lb rise leaves him needing another career best here.

15:15 – Killybegs Junior

Division one of the two-and-a-half-mile handicap hurdle can go to Fergal O’Brien’s relatively new recruit KILLYBEGS JUNIOR. Picked up from Arthur Moore out of the point-to-point field, Killybegs Junior was well supported on stable debut at Carlisle last month but ultimately found the very deep ground a little too testing his first outing for 179 days. The winner has gone in again since, with the fifth going close at Southwell next time too, so the form already looks reliable and this horse is worth another chance running off the same BHA mark (100) this afternoon. Mac Be Lucky remains in good heart, while Gata Ban could be even more of a threat.

15:50 – Almost Gotaway

The lightly-raced ALMOST GOTAWAY is fancied to win division two. The gelded son of Getaway improved on his hurdling debut effort in March to be beaten just half a length in a Warwick maiden the following month, while his comeback run – and handicap debut – at Ffos Las was not devoid of promise. He shaped as if he’d tighten up for the run there and has been left on the same mark by the handicapper. It looks like one he can exploit before too long. Sam Bear is an obvious contender for the in-form Chris Gordon, while Keiran Burke is another trainer in good nick at the moment and his Lady Wilberry may prove well treated off 99 on her handicap debut based on the pick of last season’s form in mares’ novice events.
