13:20 – Baltic Voyage

BALTIC VOYAGE didn’t show much on his debut at Newbury in May but he was given plenty of time after that and was much improved in the valuable Convivial maiden at York last month. He was friendless in the betting that day but showed more than enough to suggest he is up to winning a race of this nature and he sets a good standard on form. Chuzzlewit will find this assignment easier than the Gimcrack Stakes he contested last time, however, and looks the main danger.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

13:50 – Hi Royal

HI ROYAL has an excellent pedigree and he also made a highly encouraging debut in the Convivial at York. He started at 50/1 that day and he deserves extra credit for making up so much ground from the rear in a race where newcomers rarely make an impact. That performance very much makes him the one to beat in this and that form may receive a boost from Baltic Voyage 30 minutes earlier. Reidh is a danger after making a good start himself at Thirsk, while Design is an interesting newcomer.

14:25 – Never Dark

This looks a competitive handicap for the grade and it is NEVER DARK who is taken to come out on top. His last win came at Musselburgh last year from an 8 lb lower mark than the one he races off now and he fared better than he has of late at Doncaster last week. The cheekpieces he wore on that occasion are retained and he is clearly on a mark he can be competitive from. Recent Hamilton scorer Burtonlodge Beauty is next on the list with Tanasoq and Burj Malinka in the picture, too.

15:00 – First Impression

FIRST IMPRESSION won this race from a 4 lb lower mark in 2020 and he shaped encouragingly on his return from a short break at York earlier this month. That was his best effort of the season, travelling better than most and held every chance before the winner quickened clear. First Impression is sure to strip fitter for that outing and this race may have been the plan all along. Big chance. Al Mubhir and Love is Golden should also make their presence felt.

15:35 – Misty Dancer

MISTY DANCER was backed at long odds on her debut and gradually improved on her next two starts in minor company before opening her account in a maiden at Goodwood last month. That was a career-best performance on her turf debut and she looked better and better the further she went, drawing clear in good style while leaving the impression she has even more to offer. An opening mark of 80 looks potentially lenient for one with her profile and she is fancied to follow up. My Little Queens, who is a course and distance winner, caught the eye at Newcastle recently and is feared along with the improving Remembering.

16:10 – Sun Hill

SUN HILL started at big prices and didn’t trouble the judge on his first three starts, but he was much more competitive on handicap debut at Thirsk last month and is entitled to build on that effort now. He left the impression he can prove this mark a lenient one under different circumstances, doing best of those who raced in rear in a race where it paid to be prominent, and he must have an excellent chance having been left on the same mark now. Top-weight Professional Widow arrives in good form and can provide the biggest threat.

16:45 – Shimmering Sands

SHIMMERING SANDS confirmed the promise of his handicap debut in spades when bolting up at Beverley in July and he can have a line put through his next start at Doncaster where he did too much too soon. He proved himself still a well-handicapped horse when overcoming a pace bias and trouble in-running at Leicester last time and he should be able to cope with this drop back in trip having been raised 5 lb in the weights for that success. The class dropping A Boy Named Ivy is also fancied to play a big role.

17:20 – Timbukone

A competitive closing handicap where the vote goes to TIMBUKONE. He pulled well clear of the remainder under a positive ride in a first-time visor when runner-up to a next-time-out winner at Musselburgh last month and a similar performance should see him bang in the mix once more racing from the same mark. Monhammer is enjoying a good spell at present and is feared, as is Global Humor.
