13:00 – Getthepot

Red Maple has scope to progress from last month’s Market Rasen win and is respected but GETTHEPOT has a pretty solid record since switched to chasing in May and gets the vote. Most of his best form has been shown at around 2m4f but, with the additional yardage, last month’s Market Rasen second was over a trip nearly as far as today’s. Brian Ellison’s two runners, Jet Fighter and Kiltorcan Boy are both unexposed over fences, and their relative strength in the betting may reveal some clues.

13:30 – Aviewtosea

Skatman made a winning start to his chasing career in June and is respected but AVIEWTOSEA was firmly in command in the closing stages at Bangor four weeks ago and can overcome a 5lb rise here. The other last-time-out winner, Punxsutawney Phil, is next on the list.

14:05 – Elios DOr

The class act in the line-up is Global Citizen but he hasn’t raced again since his Cheltenham Festival win in March and connections have their eyes on a bigger prize next month. Clear The Runway was in superb form when last seen in the spring but needs to prove he can do the business without headgear today. Perhaps the answer might be ELIOS D’OR, who was behind Bathiva when second here in July but didn’t jump as well as he can do that day and is very interesting if judged on his clear second behind a huge improver here in May. Bathiva is feared most.

14:40 – Glen Cannel

Soldat Forte sets a reasonable standard after his Stratford fourth but it could be significant that Brian Hughes has switched from him to Laura Morgan’s newcomer GLEN CANNEL, who has an appealing pedigree for bumpers. Bensini and Dreams Of Fortune are other newcomers to consider.

15:10 – Donnie Azoff

King Ottokar and Huflower both represent top stables and are open to significant improvement over hurdles but the most persuasive option is DONNIE AZOFF, who was returning from a long absence when second to a progressive rival at Stratford this summer and should still have some potential.

15:40 – LadyKiller

David Pipe’s LADYKILLER (nap) looked very well suited by the step up to today’s trip when winning quite stylishly at Uttoxeter on Wednesday and is taken to overcome a 7lb penalty. Oscar Montel switches back to hurdling after a creditable second in a good-quality chase here last month and may provide the main threat but good cases can also be made for Motion In Limine and Wall Of Fame.

16:10 – Lone Star

Fairly good cases can be made for all of Sevenofus, Rebel Roxy, Simply Red and Gold Wing (preferred in that order) but the suggestion is LONE STAR, who ran a big race before fading into fifth at Cartmel a fortnight ago.
