13:15 Haydock – Naval Power

ITV Saturday gets under way here with a Listed event over a mile for juveniles. This should be a walk in the park for the very promising NAVAL POWER who is unbeaten in three starts for Charlie Appleby. Those wins have come at Yarmouth, Leicester and Ascot so travelling to a new track should not be an issue. The extra furlong should be perfect for William Buick’s mount.

13:45 Haydock – Reach For The Moon

A Group 3 over a mile. REACH FOR THE MOON flopped last time but looked very talented on his comeback at Sandown after injury and should take all the beating for John and Thady Gosden and Frankie Dettori. The Sea the Stars offspring chased home the very useful My Prospero at Sandown before finishing second in the Hampton Court at Royal Ascot when defeated at 2-5. Even that form should be good enough here.

14:05 Kempton – Dubai Honour

ITV are also at Kempton Saturday for this Group 3 September Stakes over 1m4f. DUBAI HONOUR is no good thing here but with the stamina suspect on Mostahdaf, I have no choice but to stick with another William Haggas runner on the day this one ridden by Tom Marquand. It’s interesting Marquand goes here rather than Haydock, and while not good enough in the Juddmonte International at York last time Dubai Honour ran pretty well when second to Sir Busker on his previous run at the same track.

14:20 Haydock – Tamilla (Each Way)

This is a handicap over 1m6f. TAMILLA looks a progressive horse for William Haggas with Cieren Fallon taking the ride. The filly has won her last two starts at Ffos Las and Kempton off 78 and 80 and now must do it on turf off 85. However, she has run well at Haydock before and going up in trip should bring about more improvement. Strong eachway claims.

14:40 Kempton – My Mate Ted

Also at Kempton is the London Mile Series Final Handicap. This is wide open. I’ll chance the lightly raced MY MATE TED for Roger Teal and John Egan. Stall 9 should be no issue for a horse that is likely to be dropped out and my selection won his first race nicely off 75 at this track last time. He’s just up 4lb and if getting the hang of things might come home fast and late.

14:55 Haydock – Soulcombe

The Old Borough Handicap over 1m6f. I’d usually want to oppose a horse like SOULCOMBE who is up a stone in the handicap for a facile success at York last time. That said, I can’t see any improving handicapper in this field and I end up picking him by default. The William Haggas runner was like a knife through butter on his last starts and Cieren Fallon will want to drop hi out and bring him late off the pace.

15:10 Ascot – Tactical (each-way)

ITV show two races at Ascot Saturday starting with this handicap over 7f. Whenever I tip Fresh he loses and when I don’t he wins so expect him to go in here! The one I’ll risk eachway is TACTICAL for Andrew Balding and Ryan Moore. He was sixth behind Inver Park in the Buckingham Palace at Royal Ascot and is now 6lb better off. He’s dropped to 103 and clearly has some sort of chance.

15:30 Haydock – Naval Crown (each-way)

The big race of the day in the Group 1 Sprint Cup over 6f. The horse who will be very hard to kick out the frame is NAVAL CROWN for Charlie Appleby and the very much in form William Buick.

Once fourth in a 2000 Guineas, Naval Crown has turned into a very useful sprinter, this season taking the Platinum Jubilee at Royal Ascot, finishing second in the July Cup at Newmarket and fifth in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville when the extended distance just seemed a bit too far. Conditions should be ideal for Naval Crown today. I’ll back him eachway.

15:45 Ascot – Al Nafir

Finally on ITV another handicap over 1m4f. AL NAFIR might have found his perfect distance here for Charlie Appleby and Harry Davies who takes off a handy 3lb. My selection was beaten over 1m2f first time this season and then found 1m6f a little too far at York last time. That was still a decent enough effort.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
