The well-handicapped Secret Handsheikh is well drawn to repeat his front-running Chepstow heroics but he might get pestered and set this up for a closer. BIBULOUS looks a winner waiting to happen off his mark and Oriental Spirit should be closing fast at the finish.

The Parent just about has the best form and he should improve again for going over 1m, but New Dayrell needs respect after his Ascot form was boosted last week and SIR LAURENCE GRAFF might beat them both. He didn’t really get a chance to show his true worth when one of the market principals at Haydock.

18:10 – Bascule
Mostly Cloudy had an ambitious tilt at the Lonsdale Cup at York last week and finished fifth of six but he was little more than 2l away from the runner-up, so ran well and must be of major interest returned to handicaps, in which sphere he has made hay this summer. Arabescato, Our Jester and Vino Victrix bring notable recent form but watch out also for BASCULE, who produced a very satisfactory first run this year and could resume last season’s impressive progress now that he has another crack at 2m. Rain seems to have boosted the chance of Land Of Winter.
18:45 – Misty Dancer
It’s likely that MISTY DANCER will go one better than at Wolverhampton when she was second to a promising filly with Group entries. Dame Ethel Smyth, who seemed okay on good to soft at Windsor, could be the danger, but all the runners with experience are entitled to improve and there’s a well-bred newcomer in the mix as well.

All six hold some sort of chance. CANOODLED (nap) has been starting slowly but they might not hang about here, the recent rain is a blessing and there’s a race in her off this mark. She had both Alpha Cru and Celtic Empress behind her at Haydock. New Heights is feared most.
19:45 – Gherkin
A few hold chances. With The Defiant having something to prove on this softer ground it may pay to concentrate on GHERKIN and the admirable Pettochside, who dominated a soft-ground sprint at Windsor earlier in the season.
