A fantastic four days of action coming up at York’s Ebor Festival with the highlight on day one being the Juddmonte International featuring Baaeed.
13:50 – Bond Chairman
The first of Paddy’s Pick 5 races with a daily £/€10k prize fund at York. The 5f trip on the Knavesmire is quick, but Bond Chairman has been running really well in competitive races over Ascot’s stiffer 5f this season. He ran ok at this track on soft ground a couple of seasons ago, but he is definitely better on a quicker surface. He is drawn right in the middle in stall 12 and there’s plenty of pace around him. This is a great opportunity for him to get his head in front again since making a winning debut.

14:25 – Local Dynasty
This looks a great opportunity for LOCAL DYNASTY to add to his comfortable debut success at Newmarket last time for trainer Charlie Appleby. Despite that win, he was unruly at Newmarket when getting loose before going into the stalls, so connections will be hoping it’s smooth sailing once the stalls open. It certainly was in the race that day.
15:00 – Aikhal
Aidan O’Brien’s sends this highly-tried son of Galileo over again after he disappointed in the St James’s Palace Stakes at the Royal meeting. However, his two-year-old form is strong and he bounced right back to winning ways when scoring comprehensively in the International Stakes at the Curragh. We may not have yet seen the best of him yet.
15:35 – Mishriff
Baaeed is the obvious choice given his profile and unbeaten record. He has been imperious over a mile and has won the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood and the Queen Anne at the Royal meeting before that. He now tries 1m 2f for the first time and that might just give the others a chance. Last year’s impressive winner MISHRIFF is no back number and races over his ideal trip. He was a little unlucky not to win the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown. I am willing to take a punt on him at the prices. If Baaeed is too good for him, then so be it.

16:10 – Frankenstella
John Quinn’s FRANKENSTELLA is a course and distance winner and she has run well at the track a few times. She won a handicap here a couple of years ago and stays this 2m trip really well. She’s been lightly-raced this season and with only 8st 4lb to carry, she has to have a very strong chance at a decent price.
