The old boy Desert Encounter has got a good record fresh and this type of contest suits his hold up style as he will be played very late in the day. The yard signalled that they were in great form with a big win in the Bunbury Cup at the July meeting and he can be expected to be ready to roll on his debut in 2022.
14:21 Newbury – Gold Maze (Each Way)
Gold Maze looks massive value at an each way price with the dead eight runners going to post. He’s the only runner in here with a touch of wriggle room to step forward as he goes up in distance for the very first time. We have two previous winners in the line up in Withhold and Reshoun but the old boys seem to lack a little bit of pace and the relative youngster may well have too much foot for them in the closing stages.

Lots of these have had an opportunity to shine so far this season and haven’t really, with the exception being Rohaan, who went back to back in the Wokingham. At the prices Chil Chil boasts strong form having gone very close up at the highest level when we last saw her. The yard is in decent form and our jockey is having a fine campaign. She looks a big each-way player.
15:30 Newbury – Maria Branwell
Provided Maria Branwell doesn’t get lost in the early stages and end up too far back, she looks the class of this particular field. It was an excellent run at the Royal meeting when hitting the line strongly and she is only having her fourth lifetime start. We can expect another jump of improvement. Yes, she’s short, but she should be.
