This looks a potential match between IMPULSIVE REACTION and Kind Spirit, with preference for the former, who started at 50/1 on debut at Thirsk last month, but showed plenty of ability to finish a close third. He was doing all of his best work at the finish that day and he is also bred to relish this step up in trip, so looks the one to side with.
WITHOUT DELAY remains a maiden and is proving in and out so far this season, producing one of his lesser efforts when finishing midfield at Redcar last time. She has bits and pieces of form that make her of interest here, though, particularly her runner-up effort at Catterick last month. This will be her first start at a mile, but there is stamina in her pedigree, and she remains on a mark that can be exploited. Doomsday ran well when third at Doncaster last time and is feared most.
OH SO CHIC was just a modest maiden for Jessica Harrington in Ireland but she shaped well on debut for new connections when finishing fourth at Catterick last month. She wasn’t seen to best effect in that race, either, showing enough to suggest she is up to winning a low-grade staying handicap such as this. The form of that race is working out well, too, so she makes most appeal from the same mark. Red Force One is feared most on the back of his good second at Ayr last time.
BIRKENHEAD was somewhat harshly disqualified when passing the post first at Ripon last month but he quickly gained compensation when bolting up at Catterick five days later. He was officially 9 lb well in when attempting to follow up back at Ripon on his next start, but was disappointing on the whole, but he ran creditably from his revised mark at Thirsk 13 days ago. He is with a hard that do especially well with such types and he may be worth chancing to resume winning ways. Rory and Gowanbuster (won this event in 2020) appeal as the duo to give the selection most to do.

BALLISTIC BERRY showed improved form fitted with first-time cheekpieces on handicap debut over course and distance when a short-head second to the reopposing Waverley Star. She received a bump at the start that day but proved herself on a lenient opening mark, only just failing to reel in the winner. She is slightly better off at the weights with Waverley Star now, but crucially, she is open to more progress.
RUM GOING ON has held his form well since striking over course and distance in April, again performing with plenty of credit when a close third at Redcar recently. He gets the nod in what looks a competitive heat, with Ninky Nonk, who shaped well on his reappearance at Carlisle, next on the list. On The River makes each-way appeal, a remark which also applies to Far From A Ruby, but hat-trick seeker Clotherholme needs another personal best and Yaaser may now be in the handicapper’s grip.

AWARD DANCER’s win at Newcastle last October came after a six-month break, so he’s evidently capable when fresh, and it’s worth chancing that he’ll prove as effective on turf as his unexposed profile provides hope for better again for his new trainer. Reputation arrives on the back of a couple of good efforts and rates an obvious threat, while Star Shield hasn’t fired lately but he has plied his trade at a higher level for most of his career.
