13:45 Goodwood – River Pride
You’re judging these horses a lot by their two-year-old form but I like River Pride here as she’s run two big races this season. She made all on her reappearance at Salisbury before dropping back to 6f and running really well to split Harry Three and Ernie’s Valentine. She’s drawn in the middle here which should be fine. She’s very professional and I’m always happy to have Pat Dobbs on a supposed Richard Hannon second string.

14:00 Haydock – Merveillo
It’s a real shot in the dark as the market doesn’t seem to be expecting much from Merveillo. I don’t think this horse is a hurdler despite being owned by JP McManus and trained by Jonjo O’Neill. He’s got good form in France and stays 1m6f well. He was not fancied on his belated return at Newbury but he made a bit of late ground. If you thought this horse just needed a few runs to get down the handicap or you were preparing him for a summer jumps campaign, why would you book Tom Marquand? It suggests he’s in here with some sort of chance.
14:15 Goodwood – Majestic Dawn
I’m inclined to forgive Majestic Dawn‘s effort at Chester where he just did too much in front and raced quite freely. That was disappointing but he’s proven to be a reliable customer over the last couple of years. He’s a strong galloper and he’ll take all the beating if he’s back to his best form.
14:35 Haydock – City Runner
City Runner has improved for stepping up in trip this season and I fancy him to win a handicap off this mark. There is a change of jockey as Marco Ghiani takes over but I wouldn’t say that’s a massive negative. My only worry is if he gets involved in a speed battle but there might be a change of tactics as he’s tracked the pace in the past. He’ll outrun his odds and appeals from an each-way point of view.

14:55 York – Zargun
Zargun stayed on strongly inside the final furlong last time out when finishing a short head and a length behind Alligator Alley. He’s been dropped 2lbs for that effort and being in stall 14 doesn’t worry me. He’s got a good record at York and was a Group 3 sprinter in Germany. If he comes on for his last run then he’ll be placed here.
15:10 Haydock – El Caballo
El Caballo has got the speed to go where he wants and was an impressive winner at the three-year-old final at Newcastle on Good Friday. The horse he beat there, Tiber Flow, won at Newbury last weekend. The other one I quite like is Flaming Rib. It was a good performance last time out over 5f and the step back up in trip with help him. The question is whether being drawn in stall 1 will be a good thing. There are too many questions marks about how he will run tactically, however.
15:20 Curragh – Imperial Fighter
There’s no getting past Native Trail. He keeps delivering and the draw was not kind to him at Newmarket. We know he goes well at the Curragh and there are no holes in him. The question is who finishes second and I think Imperial Fighter, who has the same rating as Buckaroo and had very good form as a two-year-old, is worth playing for the forecast or each-way. He won’t win but will run well.
15:30 York – Glenartney
Glenartney needs a bit of juice in the ground and 1m6f, which she gets for the first time in her life and I think that’ll make all the difference. She’s also one of the few in the race who has the scope to improve because she’s never had her ideal conditions.

15:45 Haydock – Winter Power
Winter Power is really solid but I wouldn’t have run her in the King’s Stand as Ascot’s not her track because she wants to blaze. The way she burned off the Wes Ward colt at York last year was absolutely devastating. She just wants a flat track that puts the emphasis on early speed. She’s always gone well fresh and I can’t be against her. Moss Gill, King’s Lynn and Mondammej can finish behind.
