The Curragh plays host to the first of the season’s Classics in Ireland – but who is the favourite to win the Irish 2000 Guineas?

Lucky Vega was the 7/2 market leader for last year’s renewal but it was 8/1 shot Mac Swiney who triumphed by a short head from Newmarket 2000 Guineas winner and stablemate Poetic Flare on soft to heavy ground.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

The most recent horse to win the 2000 Guineas on both sides of the Irish Sea was Churchill in 2017, but this year’s Newmarket scorer Coroebus is being kept fresh for next month’s St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.

We’ve taken a look at Paddy Power’s odds for the Irish 2000 Guineas and picked out the four horses at the top of the market.

Native Trail is back for a second crack at Classic glory after being beaten by stablemate Coroebus by ¾l in last month’s 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. Last year’s leading two-year-old goes for his second win of the season after comfortably landing the Craven Stakes in April.

Next in the betting is course-and-distance winner Buckaroo, who impressively scored in this month’s Tetrarch Stakes. The son of Fastnet Rock went down to Piz Badile by a short head in April’s Ballysax Stakes and beat Epsom Derby favourite Stone Age in a maiden last July.

Aidan O’Brien’s leading hope appears to be Ivy League, who is two from four since making his racecourse debut in March. The son of Galileo has a bit to find on form, however, as he could only place second to Pretreville in the Group 3 Amethyst Stakes at Leopardstown on his last start.

Wexford Native was a first-time winner before a 4l defeat to Buckaroo in the Tetrarch Stakes and comes from the same stable as last year’s first two home.
