17:15 Ribeye

Peter Atkinson’s RIBEYE took 12 attempts to get off the mark over hurdles and has been raised 8lb for his Newcastle success three weeks ago but he drew nicely clear of the others with an unexposed rival (who had won his previous race) and is not yet fully exposed on good ground. He gets the vote ahead of course winner Johnson’s Blue, who probably still has potential. Strike Of Lighting looks interesting on his first attempt at this sort of trip under rules and is next on the list.

17:50 Katpoli

He’s nothing like the force of old but KATPOLI has been competitive in some fairly good handicap chases this year and should still be good enough to win at this level on his return to hurdling. Kings Creek seems likely to run his race and is second choice, while Bestiarius was fairly consistent last season and Well Educated may yet turn his career around.

18:20 Croagh Patrick (NAP)

It’s hard to be swayed from CROAGH PATRICK (nap), who has been in excellent form at around 2m4f since his wind op in February and might have more improvement to come back at 3m. Scottish Accent is fairly reliable and may provide the biggest threat. Canelo is very well handicapped for today’s stable debut and will be of strong interest if the market speaks in his favour.

18:50 Fringill Dike

There’s not that much to separate FRINGILL DIKE, Clear White Light (second choice) and Maillot Blanc on adjusted RPRs, with a narrow vote going the way of the first named. Dr Richard Newland’s hurdle newcomer Retrospect is another to consider, particularly if the betting vibes are strong.

19:20 Stoney Mountain

Very useful hurdler STONEY MOUNTAIN comes here with a bit to prove, given he was well beaten on his last two appearances and has a shaky record over fences. However, this is considerably easier than the races he’s used to contesting and he gets the nod in the hope his class can see him through. Chasing debutant Floating Rock can pose a threat if able to transfer his best hurdling form to fences, while Saint Arvans also has possibilities.

19:50 Ellaat

Paddy The Horse has made a very solid start to his handicap career and Koi Dodville (second choice) comes here after digging deep for a good win at Cheltenham this month, but ELLAAT seems to have thrived since the autumn and the form of last month’s Sedgefield win has been very well advertised by the runner-up.

20:20 Fourth Of July

This can go to FOURTH OF JULY, who bumped into a improver when second at Kelso two starts ago and was a very respectable third when out of the weights in a competitive series final last time. He’s on a good mark now, even before William Shanahan’s very useful 7lb claim is considered. Follow Your Fire reverts to chasing after two good hurdle runs this spring and is second choice, ahead of chasing debutante Present Storm.
