13:00 – Baltic Bird
BALTIC BIRD offered plenty to work on when third on his debut at Leicester three weeks ago, sticking to his task well under just hands-and-heels riding. He passed the post 12 lengths behind the winner, Nahanni, who gave the form a boost when following up in the Blue Riband Trial at Epsom on Tuesday. There is unlikely to be anything of that calibre in opposition today and Baltic Bird won’t need to improve much to play a leading role for his top yard.

13:30 – Intervention
INTERVENTION wasn’t seen to best effect when down the field on his most recent outing at Wolverhampton, inevitably getting tired late on after being forced to race wide throughout. That was a rare blip for a horse who had previously been most progressive on the all-weather, notably winning five times since the turn of the year. A BHA mark of 70 still looks fair judged on the balance of his form and he is well worth another chance now back on turf with James Doyle booked.
14:05 – Boardman
BOARDMAN shaped with plenty of promise when fourth on his reappearance at Redcar three weeks ago, keeping on well from a poor position to be beaten only two and a half lengths. He can race from the same mark here and it’s worth remembering that he came good around this time last year with a hat-trick of wins. The first of them came over this course and distance and he looks to have conditions in his favour for another big run today.

14:40 – Nashwa
NASHWA showed signs of inexperience on her debut at Newmarket in October, but she very much caught the eye by the end, running on well to pass the post only five and a half lengths behind the winner. That form puts her right in the mix here and she seems sure to progress with a run under her belt. Her entry in the Oaks suggests she is held in high regard and this looks a good opportunity for her to get off the mark at the second attempt before going on to bigger and better things.
15:15 – Exminster
EXMINSTER was beaten only four lengths on his recent reappearance at Beverley, deserving extra credit under the circumstances after being caught wider on the track than ideal. That run is likely to have blown the cobwebs away and he showed enough in four starts as a two-year-old to suggest there are handicaps to be won with him from a BHA mark of 74. This looks an excellent chance if the application of first-time cheekpieces can eke out a bit more improvement.
15:45 – Baldomero
BALDOMERO shaped as if still in good form when fifth on the Good Friday card at Lingfield, passing the post just a length and a quarter behind the winner and looking unlucky not to finish closer still after being short of room in the final furlong. It’s still relatively early days with the Mick Appleby yard and he was just as effective on turf when trained in Ireland by Joseph O’Brien. The drop back to a mile won’t be an issue either and he remains potentially well treated on a BHA mark of 91.

16:20 – Glen Esk
GLEN ESK ended 2021 a bit out of sorts, but he has gone well fresh in the past, including when filling the runner-up spot on last season’s reappearance. He went on to win his next three starts and the middle leg of that hat-trick came over this course and distance. The Chris Wall yard has started the turf season well (two winners from only three runners) and Glen Esk looks to have plenty going for him from the same mark as when registering his latest success at Windsor in August.
